Busy library environment Summary
The Summer Library Assistant works closely with coworkers and management to support the Summer Reading Program (SRP). This role is seasonal in nature, beginning in June and ending in August. Essential Functions
Explain the SRP to patrons and distribute reading logs
Assist patrons with program registration
Set up tables and chairs for programs
Assist program performers with set up and checking in registrants
Prepare craft materials and supplies
Collect reading logs from patrons who completed the SRP and distribute prizes
Perform basic circulation functions including checking materials in
Empty book drops
Sort materials in preparation for shelving
Shelve library materials
Scheduling flexibility based on the needs of the business
Maintain consistent and reliable attendance for scheduled shifts
Perform other duties as assigned by management
Other Functions
Perform readers advisory for patrons based on age, interest, and reading level
Promote literacy, intellectual freedom, and equal access to information
Record statistics as directed by management
Enforce the Library's Code of Conduct Policy
Report safety concerns to management
Physical Requirements
Ability to complete keyboard entry
Ability to talk, hear, and see
Ability to lift 30 lbs., push carts weighing 50 pounds, and shelve materials on high and low shelves
Ability to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods of time and intermittently
Competencies
Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the library
Ability to adjust to changing priorities
Must enjoy working with children, tweens, teens, families
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment

Required Education and Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent Preferred Education and Experience
Library experience
Work with children, tweens, and teens
Ability to speak a language in addition to English Additional Eligibility Requirements
Ability to pass Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Fingerprint Based Federal Criminal History Check. Disclaimer
