Job Description
The selected candidate will test, troubleshoot, repair, and operate installed Radio Communications Systems on various classes of US Navy and US Coast Guard ships.
Shipboard testing supports CSSQT, BMD, CSAT, Aegis Modernization, and during ships' training and operational cycles.
The candidate must have in-depth knowledge of US Navy communications architecture, applications, equipment/systems configuration, and troubleshooting procedures.
Systems/equipment testing includes (but is not limited to):
- AN/WSC-3 (V)
- DMR
- HFRG, URT-23, HFDAG
- NMT
- Link 16 (LOS, STJ, MTJ, UTJ)
- SA-2112 SAS/BAS and Red Phones
- TVS
- Crypto Systems
- NAVMACS
- CDLMS
- Couplers and Antenna Systems
- JTIDS/MOS
This position requires travel up to 25%, including locations such as Norfolk VA, Pacific Northwest, Mayport FL, Honolulu HI, Japan, Spain, Scotland, and Greece.
Short-term underway work on US Navy and US Coast Guard ships may be required.
The candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
The hourly rate is set by the Department of Labor; for Tech IV, it is $32.30/hour.
This position is based in San Diego, CA. No relocation assistance is provided. Applicants must reside in or be willing to relocate to San Diego or surrounding areas.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- High school diploma and at least 4 years of related experience
- US Navy ET with shipboard/submarine experience
- US Navy A School
- Ability to set up and operate complex US Navy communications systems
- Ability to train and interact effectively with shipboard personnel
- Ability to travel (up to 25%)
- Ability to get underway on US Navy and US Coast Guard ships
- Ability to work in an industrial environment and wear PPE
- Ability to work at heights
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Valid US passport
- Experience as a technical instructor
- Shipboard Communications equipment maintenance experience
- Experience with ship classes such as CG, DDG, CVN, LCS
- Experience with Navy Computer and Telecommunication Stations
Pay Information
This position is covered by the McNamara-O'Hara Service Contract Act (SCA). The wage range is determined by the Department of Labor on a contract-by-contract basis.
