Job Salary: $150,000 - $165,000
Job Summary:
Galapagos Federal Systems LLC is seeking a highly skilled mid-level Public Relations Specialist to develop and maintain a strong public image for the organization. This role offers the opportunity to work with a talented and diverse team dedicated to strategic communication and brand enhancement. The ideal candidate will be responsible for crafting compelling narratives, managing media relations, and executing communication strategies that align with the company’s mission and objectives.
Skills / Experience Required:
Key Responsibilities:
- Current Active Secret clearance, mandatory
- 3 to 10 years of demonstrated hands-on experience in public relations
- Proficiency in digital communication tools, social media platforms, and content management systems
- Develop and implement public relations strategies to enhance the company’s brand and reputation
- Create, edit, and distribute press releases, media advisories, and corporate communications
- Manage relationships with media outlets, journalists, and key stakeholders to maximize positive coverage
- Coordinate public affairs activities, community outreach initiatives, and corporate events
- Monitor and assess public sentiment, industry trends, and media coverage to identify opportunities and risks
- Oversee crisis communication planning and response to maintain corporate integrity
- Support internal communications, ensuring employees are informed about company initiatives and updates
- Collaborate with leadership and key departments to align messaging with business objectives
- Develop engaging content for digital platforms, including social media, newsletters, and website updates
- Ensure compliance with all relevant communication policies, regulations, and industry best practices
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with experience crafting press materials and reports
- Proven ability to manage media relations and public affairs in a government or corporate environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with senior leadership
- Experience with crisis communication, risk assessment, and reputation management
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while managing multiple priorities
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in government contracting or federal programs
- Familiarity with public affairs and strategic communication within defense or intelligence sectors
- Certification in Public Relations (APR), Communications, or a related field is a plus
Education / Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (preferred: Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, English, Political Science). A bachelor’s degree is required; however, 6+ years of relevant work experience may be considered as a substitute for the required experience OR an associate degree plus 4 years' work experience may be substituted by a bachelor's degree
- Master’s degree in public relations, Strategic Communications, Business Administration (MBA), or a related field (preferred but not required). A master’s degree (MA/MS) is preferred; however, a bachelor's degree plus 8 years' work experience may be substituted for a master’s degree OR 12+ years of relevant work experience may be accepted in place of a master’s degree
Additional Certifications (Preferred but Not Required):
- Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) – Offered by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA)
- Certified Public Relations Specialist (CPRS) – Various professional organizations offer certifications to validate PR expertise
- Project Management Professional (PMP) – Useful for managing PR campaigns and initiatives

Security Clearance:
Must be a U.S. Citizen. A high-level Department of Defense active security clearance is/may be required. Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to government information.
Physical Requirements:
Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time and typing and reading from a computer screen. The candidate must have enough mobility, including bending, reaching, and kneeling, to complete daily duties in a prompt and efficient manner and that may include lifting to thirty pounds, as necessary.
