Overview
Courthouse News Service, a California-based legal news service, is seeking a reporter to cover civil court filings in and around Montreal. A legal background is not required, but demonstrated interest and ability in journalism is necessary.
The job will entail visiting the provincial and federal courthouses in Montreal every weekday afternoon, as well as driving to other area courts on a rotating schedule throughout the week, to review and summarize new civil lawsuits. The reporter will also be expected to pitch and write nationally targeted news and feature stories covering law, politics, the environment, culture and other general topics in Montreal and Eastern Canada. Competitive pay is offered for approximately 20-25 hours per week. Some benefits are available.
Lawsuits throughout Quebec can be filed in both English and French, so please be fluent in both.
To apply, email a cover letter and resume in Word or PDF format, and include 3-5 writing samples, to newjob6@courthousenews.com. Please include "Montreal" in the subject line.
