Full Time - Grant Writer
Department of Public Works - Non Exempt - UWUA Local #541
Job Summary
This position is responsible for seeking and acquiring local, state, federal, corporate, and foundation grants and other external funding to achieve the Department of Public Works' strategic plan. Performs duties under the general supervision of the Director of Public Works or their designee.
Illustrative Job Duties And Responsibilities
- Coordinate and lead grant programs supporting capital improvement projects for Public Works and other city grant programs.
- Research legislative announcements, publications, and directives to identify available grants.
- Compile information, data, and documentation for grant applications.
- Manage administrative functions and financial aspects related to grants, ensuring compliance with regulations.
- Review grant conditions and awards, ensuring all requirements are met prior to acceptance.
- Maintain an updated list of grant opportunities and disseminate to relevant departments.
- Evaluate policies and procedures for program compliance and develop reporting systems.
- Liaise with grantor officials and ensure adherence to protocols and timelines.
- Coordinate with finance for matching funds and proper budgeting.
- Prepare claims for grant reimbursements and maintain grant records.
- Coordinate with city departments and outside agencies on funding programs.
- Review revenues and expenditures for grant projects.
- Demonstrate punctual attendance and perform other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge Of
- Basic math and data analysis.
- Excellent writing and editing skills.
- Organizational and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in Word and Excel.
- Ability to read technical instructions and manuals.
Ability To
- Evaluate data and information.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Work independently and as part of a team, handling multiple projects under deadlines.
Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree with emphasis on writing or experience in federal, state, or private grant proposals.
- Experience in a government setting preferred.
- Combination of experience and education may be considered.
- Valid Michigan Driver's license required.
Additional Information
Salary: $29.39 per hour
