Purpose
The Design Director is the custodian of design quality within the creative team, responsible for overseeing the design process, refining design outputs, and ensuring attention to detail across all projects. They will act as a specialist in building effective design systems and ensuring design aligns with strategic objectives.
You have a meticulous eye for design detail, extensive experience in managing design processes, and are skilled at building cohesive and scalable design systems. You have a strong foundation in understanding how brands work and how to make them successful. You thrive on elevating design standards and streamlining processes. You understand how to align creative vision with business goals. You’ve become an expert in one creative skill, have strength in two more, and continue to develop others.
Responsibilities
Creative
Lead the design process across multiple projects, ensuring consistency and attention to detail.
Collaborate on the strategic and conceptual territory of a project.
Analyze and integrate diverse research insights to guide strategic creative decisions.
Collaborate closely with strategists, writers, designers, directors, and clients to ensure visuals contribute to the overall project narrative.
Create sketches, mockups, storyboards, and visual concepts that guide design decisions.
Build and refine design systems that serve both client work and internal projects.
Set high standards for quality and consistency.
Drive the adoption of new tools and technologies to streamline the design process.
Business
Partner with the business development team on creating impactful client proposals and contributing to the pitch process.
Build and maintain strong client or stakeholder relationships.
Become an expert in ID’s service offerings and capabilities and support in building case studies for proposals.
Analyze market trends to help guide strategic decisions.
Operations
Conduct end-of-scope project evaluations to identify and implement improvements in internal processes.
Oversee large or complex projects, effectively managing timelines, team coordination, and project resources.
Establish expertise in ID's operational foundations, using them daily.
Lead internal and client communication; skilled in influencing client decisions and presenting strategic solutions.
Management
Lead project teams to success.
Direct teams' priorities and weekly outcomes, making sure project teams move in unison.
Mentor and provide guidance for other team members, helping elevate the team’s creative capabilities.
Contribute to a culture of continuous learning, ensuring the team stays ahead of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices.
Logistical Requirements
The Design Director will be based out of our Los Angeles office, leading work with a commitment to in-person collaboration. Monday – Thursday required in the office, option for Work-from-home Fridays.
Travel to the US and internationally may be required based on client and company needs. As a full-time employee, the role may involve working extended hours, including evenings and weekends, to meet client deadlines.
