Overview
Job Title: Broadcast Operations Supervisor
Hires, trains, and supervises student workers in KMOS Master Control/On-Air Operations.
Works with the Program Director to create and edit on-air promotions, including:
- Preparing weekly, Kids, Long Lead, Local, and National promo reels.
- Ensuring the completion, editing, and distribution of promo reels.
Under the supervision of the Senior Broadcast Systems Engineer, participates in maintenance, upgrades, and installation of KMOS transmission, production, and operations equipment. Also part of the on-call rotation of the engineering department.
Collaborates with the Strategic Partnership team to meet technology needs for outreach events and attends these events as necessary.
Serves as backup to the Traffic Coordinator.
Under the direction of the Senior Broadcast Systems Engineer, supervises On-air Operations of KMOS, including:
- Hiring, training, scheduling, mentoring, and supervising student workers, ensuring FCC compliance.
- Creating promotional content (video, audio, graphics) in coordination with the Program Director.
Assists with equipment such as:
- KMOS Master Control Broadcast automation system
- Editing, graphic, and video routing computers
- Broadcast automation, editing, audio, video, traffic, compression, and conversion software
- Fiber optic distribution systems
- PBS transmission and content delivery systems
- Traffic scheduling systems
Ensures FCC compliance and manages programming, staffing, and technical decisions to maintain uninterrupted broadcast. Additional duties include:
- Installing and maintaining software and hardware
- Documenting maintenance and repairs
- Managing inventory and coordinating repairs
- Supporting transmission site maintenance
- Participating in on-call shifts
- Supporting Department of Strategic Partnership events, including media preparation
Serves as backup to the Traffic Coordinator, responsible for maintaining broadcast logs and billing accuracy.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Engineering, Video Production, Networking, IT, or related field. Equivalent experience may substitute.
- Minimum of 2 years in electronic maintenance, networking, IT, or video production.
- Experience with software/firmware installation, upgrades, and maintenance.
- Preferred: experience with PC hardware, networking protocols, broadcast equipment, Master Control, satellite delivery, and Traffic software.
