GENERAL FUNCTION:
Creates, develops and executes live and taped programming for both American History TV and Book TV, and other C-SPAN platforms including radio, social media, podcasts and web. Serves as a member of the AHTV/Book TV editorial team, helping to choose books and history topics for coverage.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Identifies and produces history topics and author events from a wide source of outlets and recommends coverage for C-SPAN programs.
- Produces and line produces book and history fairs and festivals and other live programs.
- Shoots, edits and produces content for use on-air and across all C-SPAN platforms.
- Oversees production of visual and graphic elements.
- Prepares programs for air, including logging, selecting promotional clips, writing scripts and graphics and typing on-air graphics.
- Follows history and book industries in particular, and public affairs in general.
- Represents C-SPAN to external groups.
- Other duties as assigned.
BACKGROUND/SKILLS:
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Political Science, History, English or Radio/TV.
- Minimum four years relevant work experience.
- Familiarity with technology and proven ability to shoot and edit professional-quality video.
- Strong knowledge of and interest in non-fiction books, history and public policy.
- Understanding of C-SPAN programming and philosophy.
- Proven experience in editorial decision-making.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Ability to work with a team.
