Overview
The ECS Team provides focused agile software development and maintenance for CODIS, a mission-critical application for the FBI. Today, CODIS is a client server application developed using Microsoft .NET that supports a database repository of DNA profiles from individuals, unsolved crime scene evidence, and missing persons. CODIS software allows local, state, and national laboratories to compare DNA profiles electronically, thereby linking serial crimes to each other and identifying suspects by matching DNA profiles from crime scenes to individuals' profiles. Additionally, the CODIS software is used to assist with the identification of unidentified human remains, missing persons and disaster victims.
The UI/UX Designer will support the DMSS program by working within an Agile, cross-functional team to serving as a designer responsible for user experience and interface design of a new web-based application hosted in a Cloud environment. The UI/UX Designer works collaboratively with other team members, stakeholders and end users as they are responsible for user experience and interface design. A self-starter who needs minimal supervision, is comfortable breaking down complex requirements and concepts into well-thought visual designs and workflows curious about software, and comes with a team-first approach to the position is highly desired.
At least 5 years of experience as a user experience designer, interaction designer, information architect, or similar role
•Experience contributing or leading UI/UX design efforts, to include user testing, requirements gathering, user persona mappings, UI design, and UI implementation
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to simplify complex concepts in concise communication artifacts
•Understanding business needs and the ability to work with customers to derive requirements for projects, determine the feasibility of design within time and cost constraints, and translate those into a final product
•Excellent interpersonal and client-focused skills - interacts well with all levels of staff and partners with a positive and enthusiastic attitude
•Desire to work in a collaborative and team-focused environment
•Strong attention to detail, critical thinking skills, and solid troubleshooting ability
•Conceptual understanding of User Interface Design and the Design Process.
•Intermediate to advanced user of Adobe Creative Suite (or other designer tools)
•Intermediate level of HTML, CSS and Bootstrap
•Understanding of responsive design and touch interface interaction techniques and be in sync with recent design standards and trends
•A solid portfolio of work demonstrating experience creating great user-centered design solutions across multiple interfaces and screen sizes
•Ability to work collaboratively with developers, project managers, and cross-functional teams to ensure that designs are successfully created and implemented to achieve the user goals
•Experience creating UI specs & wireframes
•Flexibility and willingness to move from idea, to whiteboard, to execution quickly
•Participates in testing, validating own and others' functionality
