JOB DESCRIPTION Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is a district on the rise, serving over 320,000 students in 500+ schools and employing over 44,000 people, most of them teachers. The mission of the Children First Fund (CFF) is to promote the growth and success of Chicago Public Schools through philanthropy and partnerships. We serve as a knowledge hub and liaison between CPS and its community of partners, including businesses, foundations, and individuals. By matching resources provided by external donors and partners with the students, schools, and staff that need them most, CFF maximizes the impact of CPS’ partnerships and advances the CPS Vision. CFF’s portfolio is centered around 5 priority areas: Academic Success and Educator Development; College and Career Success; Safety, Wellness, and Supportive Learning Environments; Compassion Fund (Direct to school, student, and family support); and School Partnerships (including the School Partnership Program). Job Summary: Reporting to the Director of External Partnerships, the CFF Marketing and Communications Manager will manage messaging, integrated marketing, collateral development, public relations, and digital and social media in support of Chicago Public Schools (CPS). They will also collaborate closely on online fundraising campaign development. In this role, the CFF Marketing and Communications Manager will creatively engage existing and potential new donors and partners by celebrating the impact of meaningful existing CPS partnerships, highlighting areas needed for investment, and developing and executing compelling giving campaigns. This role builds upon existing brand awareness for Children First Fund, and engages and grows our audience at all giving levels by increasing Chicagoans’ connection to the city’s schools and youth, building public trust and investment in Chicago’s future and CPS’ continued success. They craft engaging social media and digital content through a storytelling lens. The CFF Marketing & Communications Manager proactively identifies new opportunities or approaches for content to highlight the impact of partnerships, the stories of students and teachers, what gaps and opportunities look like in schools, and the diverse ways paths to support via CFF. The role is the main liaison between CFF and the CPS Communications Office with regular communication and biweekly meetings. This is a full-time exempt position that will be paid for time worked on a salary basis. Responsibilities: Ideate, write, and produce timely and inspiring digital and social content that engages CFF’s diverse audiences, and supports CPS programming, events, and school-based fundraising, including the use of Instagram reels and TikTok. Develop and execute a strategy to engage diverse audiences through CFF’s website, via multiple channels, with an emphasis on increasing traffic to improve branding, awareness, and philanthropic support. Draft and schedule outreach and social media posts across various channels, including the CFF newsletter, blog, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. Engage and build new social networks and email lists to build strong relationships with donors and promote campaigns. Evaluate the effectiveness of ongoing digital marketing and fundraising campaigns and use insights for continual improvement. Manage new fundraising channels for CFF (such as TikTok, and/or peer-to-peer) and suggest strategies that harness these marketing opportunities. Maintain a suite of key messages for the organization and its fundraising priorities. Develop, edit, and design compelling collateral and presentations to use with internal and external stakeholders that reinforce CFF/CPS vision and funding priorities. Write, edit, and design a broad range of engaging marketing communications, including fundraising appeals, emails, blog articles, and flyers. Develop Impact Reports to recognize the important outcomes from funding to particular giving areas. Develop external and internal communications and correspondence (e.g. bi-monthly newsletter, donor recognition letter template, CPS all staff emails, etc.). Support development, execution, and stewardship of annual marquee giving campaigns that have multiple audiences and need a unique fundraising and promotions plan, including Back to School, holidays, and the CPS Dream Fund. Support the development of new alumni outreach efforts. Work closely with the full CFF development team to fundraise and steward funders for priority fundraising initiatives. Maintain the CFF website through the use of a web editing tool to ensure the site is always accurate and by uploading new content and images that contain relevant graphic design. Organize and/or attend press conferences or media events with CPS/school leadership and partners. Qualifications: Education Required: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Marketing, Communications, or a related field. Experience Required: Minimum of five (5) years of experience in online marketing, social media, and/or professional writing with a portfolio that demonstrates proficiency in a variety of written content types, such as blog posts, emails, social media posts, website pages, brochure copy or other marketing collateral. Experience using social media for brand awareness and impressions with excellent knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and other social media best practices. Experience working with a website content management system (i.e. WordPress). Experience with basic graphic design or design software (i.e. Adobe, Canva, etc.). Experience working with an email marketing platform (Mailchimp). Experience with photography, video editing, and creating videos for social media is a plus. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must be extremely organized with the ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously with attention to quality and detail. Creative, strategic thinker who applies an audience-centered approach to marketing. Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple projects, and to work both within teams and independently. Ability to display concepts through visuals (infographics, etc.). Must embrace the mission of providing equitable access to high-quality educational opportunities for every CPS student and be self-motivated in pursuit of this goal. Conditions of Employment: As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to: Establish/Maintain Chicago Residency - Employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district. The Chicago residency requirement does not apply to temporary/part-time positions, however, all CPS employees must be residents of Illinois.
