This position encompasses professional and responsible highly technical consultative and/or administrative work unique to the design and engineering of complex datacenters, networks and cloud deployments. Under administrative direction of a university IT manager, with broad latitude for independent action or decision, is responsible for the development of comprehensive infrastructure solutions. Engineer and operate mission critical infrastructure and be responsible for the access and protection of sensitive data, systems, and networks. May lead a team or participate in a team in planning, designing, implementing, and maintaining datacenter and cloud operations that includes the management of IT facilities, network, security, telecommunications, servers, storage, and virtualization components. There are three Levels of this title. Assignment Levels 2 and 3 may oversee multiple projects and supervise employees. This specification describes typical assignments for this title; related duties may be assigned as needed. CUNY TV is seeking for an experienced IT Operations Engineer to join our team. Reporting into the CUNY TV Chief Information Officer, the IT Operations Engineer will play a vital role in developing, designing, and implementing advanced IT infrastructure to support the CUNY TV broadcast environment. This includes maintaining the virtualization, storage, backup, and various monitoring application suites while ensuring compliance with security, privacy, and operational standards. This role also involves collaborating with internal IT teams around CUNY and third-party vendors to deliver robust and scalable technological solutions. Key duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Design, deploy, monitor, and maintain core infrastructure systems, including: Cisco UCS Dell based VMware 7.x/8.x environment TigerFS Seagate NetApp Brocade Fibre Channel storage subsystem Veeam PresSTORE backups (on-prem Spectra Logic LTO library and S3 compatible cloud) Solarwinds monitoring suite (including NCM and IPAM) APC power and environmental monitoring Various legacy Dell and HP servers (including iDRAC and iLO) Perform systems deployment and administration for both Windows and Linux systems. Apply software and system patches, updates and upgrades as needed. Maintain disaster recovery (DR) environment, failure/recovery testing. Maintain IT Run Book (SOP) documentation. Identify and escalate potential system issues or design flaws before they impact performance. Ensure all systems adhere to CUNY security and operational policies. Assist in drafting technical specifications for the procurement of IT systems and services and evaluate vendor submissions in response to RFPs, RFIs, and bids and provide recommendations. Minimum qualifications include a baccalaureate degree in computer science, engineering or a related field from an accredited college or university and five (5) years of satisfactory full-time experience in the design and engineering of complex datacenters, networks and/or cloud deployments; or a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and six (6) years of satisfactory full-time experience as described in "1" above; or a high school diploma or its educational equivalent and ten (10) years of satisfactory full-time experience as described in "1" above; or education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1," "2" or "3" above.
