The Scenic Artist is responsible for accurately executing custom designs and detailing on scenic elements for projects. This role involves working closely with the fabrication manager, paint supervisor, production manager, and the design-creative team in the layout, painting, texturing, sculpting, and detailing of all hard scenic elements. This position reports to the Manager - Fabrication.
Key Job Responsibilities
Fabrication
- Interpret design renderings and callouts.
- Apply finishes, lacquers, tints, washes, spray finishing, and brush techniques.
- Custom mix and match paint.
- Prime, finish coat, and seal all hard scenic pieces.
- Sculpt and carve.
- Touch up, rework, and maintain completed projects.
- Create pounce patterns and stencils.
- Attend show site installations as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Safety
- Follow all applicable OSHA and corporate safety protocols and regulations.
- Maintain a safe working environment by keeping a clean, organized workspace.
Job Qualifications
- 3+ years’ experience in scenic artistry, finish painting, and carving or equivalent experience.
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience required.
- Knowledge and proficiency with scenic or faux painting techniques and basic carving.
- Ability to read and interpret working drawings and renderings.
- Ability to follow directions and adhere to scheduled hours.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently as needed.
- Effective verbal communication and proficiency with relevant software.
- Ability to meet tight timelines and strict deadlines.
Work Environment
Work is performed in a shop environment. Team members must adhere to appearance guidelines as defined by Encore. When in the Fabrication Department, work will be completed in a temperature-controlled environment with exposure to dirt, sand, dust, and chemicals. Working conditions may vary between moderately quiet to noisy volumes, with irregular hours and on-call status, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
