Camp Music & Arts Conservatory Assistant Instructor - Camp Walter Johnson
Location: Camp Walter Johnson, Denton, NC
Position Type: Temporary Full-Time - Overnight Residential
Pay Range: $300.00 per week.
About this opportunity:
Plans, coordinates, and assists the assigned functions of the Conservatory Music & Creative Arts program; ensures the quality of programs and safety of youth at all times; provides guidance and role modeling to youth and ensures safety and a positive experience for campers. Music & Arts Instructors will each have at least one specific field of instruction either in Acting, Brass, Choral, Dance, Guitar, Percussion, Piano, and/or Visual Arts.
Key Responsibilities
- Provides and assists with quality music and/or dance and/or acting and/or art classroom instruction daily and activities which will develop musical abilities and motor and learning skills of students.
- Prepares students for recitals and concerts and provides weekly lessons.
- Teaches theory and technique as it applies to the appropriate level for performance purposes.
- Maintains discipline and acceptable behaviors of students, creating an atmosphere of friendliness and security during all program periods.
- Responsible for the care of instruments and equipment during class, with necessary repairs immediately reported to the Divisional Music & Arts Director.
- Participates and assists in various classes as assigned, providing constant care for the needs of the campers.
- Participates enthusiastically as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights, and other all-camp activities.
- Sits with camper tables during meals and serves as a table monitor when needed.
- Keeps personal living quarters neat, clean, and ready for inspection.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
What we are looking for in you:
- Six months experience of classroom and/or private lesson teaching and/or directing experience in at least one specific field of instruction either in Acting, Brass, Choral, Dance, Guitar, Percussion, Piano, and/or Visual Arts, or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Ability to perform in at least one specific field of instruction.
Licenses and Certifications:
- None.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a summer camp environment with some exposure to outdoor temperatures and varying environmental conditions. Most instruction will take place indoors and in a normal school and/or church environment. This is an overnight, residential position.

Additional Information:
Camp Staff Orientation will be held June 10-15, 2025, and participation is required. The 2025 Summer Camp Program will be held June 16, 2025 – July 19, 2025. If you are unable to work the entire program session, please let us know on your application.
Camp Staff debrief will be held on 07/20/2025 and participation is required.
