Photographer at Summer Camp for Cancer Kids - Teen Week
Help us capture and preserve the JOY of CAMP! Be a volunteer camp photographer for our Teen Week camp session, working with campers aged 12-19 years. Perks include chatting with our awesome campers throughout the day and hanging out with both campers and camp leaders.
Volunteers must submit an application, be interviewed, pass a criminal background check, attend staff training in Utah, and stay onsite during the entire camp session. Volunteers who live in Utah are preferred.
Mission Statement
Camp Hobe' offers special psychosocial support programs for kids currently being treated for cancer (or similarly-treated disorders) and their families. Our mission is to create an atmosphere that enhances self-esteem, fosters independence and friendship, and creates a sense of belonging.
Description
The summer camp serves almost 300 campers each year, providing programs for kids with cancer and their families during treatment and for 3 camp seasons after the last therapy. The summer camp includes a 2-day in-person camp for ages 4-7 years, a 5-day overnight in-person session for ages 7-11 years (Kids Week), a 5-day overnight in-person session for ages 12-19 years (Teen Week), and a virtual camp for ages 6-19 years. We also offer 2-4 free family outings each year so that families can connect and enjoy time together. We serve the Intermountain area (UT, WY, ID, NV), with over 96% of those served being Utah residents.
Camp Hobe' has 10 part-time paid staff (3 year-round, 7 seasonal) and relies heavily on volunteers to keep programs fun and safe. Camp Hobe' is accredited by the American Camp Association, meeting the highest standards for excellence in programming and risk management, and is designated as a Children's Oncology Camping Association International Gold Ribbon camp.
The in-person summer camp is held at the Camp Wapiti site in Settlement Canyon, just outside Tooele, which provides for both the medical and recreational needs of campers. The onsite infirmary is staffed by oncology-trained pediatric healthcare providers, and we offer our programs to kids at all stages of treatment, from newly-diagnosed to palliative care.
