Families and Communities Rising, Inc. (FCR, Inc.) is a nonprofit organization that has provided early education and resources to families for over 50 years! FCR Head Start/Early Head Start programs are currently seeking enthusiastic and dedicated early childhood educators to join our team in locations throughout the Durham and Orange Counties. FCR’s Director of Communication and Development is a full-time position that sits on the Senior Leadership team and reports directly to the CEO. The Director of Communication and Development works in collaboration with the CEO, other members of the leadership team, and Board of Directors to accomplish the goals of the organization. This position is an integral part of FCR’s commitment to educating and empowering hundreds of lives each year. The Director of Communication and Development leads the organization’s fundraising, internal/external communications, and marketing initiatives. This position works to increase and diversify funding while elevating FCR’s brand recognition and visibility at the community and thought-leader levels.
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Create marketing plan and strategy for the organization in collaboration with Leadership Team.
- Build and sustain strong organization brand internally and externally; maintain integrity of brand and identity.
- Oversee and provide vision for all institutional communications including annual report, collateral, videos, social media presence, etc.
- Develop social media marketing strategy and analyze key data points; shift strategy as necessary for efficacy.
- Elevate FCR’s profile and brand through comprehensive strategies including relationships with key influencers and press.
- Support staff and board in developing their communication skills and messaging through training.
- Create the organization’s new development plan in line with our strategic plan.
- Develop and oversee annual fundraising program, including major gifts.
- Develop a portfolio of major gift donors/prospects and manage the fundraising strategy for these donors with primary responsibility for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
- Build and strengthen relationships with corporations to develop corporate sponsorship and other development opportunities.
- Create customized solicitation strategies that match the objectives of the organization and interests of donor prospects.
- Oversee the government and foundation fund development process including managing high level relationships, managing contracts, and shepherding the fundraising and reporting processes.
- Direct capital campaigns and other major fundraising drives.
- Work closely with the CEO on new funding opportunities.
- Make public appearances, attend networking events, and accept speaking engagements to share information about FCR.
- Oversee fundraising database and tracking systems.
- Oversee creation of communications and publications to support development activities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Nonprofit Management, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in communications, development, or fundraising (preferably in a nonprofit setting).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven success in fundraising, including donor cultivation and grant writing.
- Strong digital marketing skills, including social media management and email marketing.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work collaboratively with teams.
- Experience with donor management software (e.g., Salesforce, Boomerang) is a plus.
- Ability to travel within the Raleigh-Durham area.
- Ability to work some flexible hours (e.g., occasional evenings and weekends).
