We are looking to hire 3-4 employees as Summer Library Assistants to help provide an outstanding library experience for our diverse community during the library’s busiest season. These are part-time positions, with candidates working 15-20 hours/week during the months of April-August 2025.
Interviews for this position will be held (virtually) in early April.

This is a temporary appointment from April 28 - Aug 30, 2025. The Town may choose to extend the term of employment beyond Aug 30, 2025.
Responsibilities:
- Provide outstanding customer service in person, on the phone, and online. Initiate contact with customers, provide helpful, friendly, knowledgeable service, take ownership of completing transactions & resolving problems, communicate effectively.
- Help customers discover materials, both in-house and online. May include checking in/shelving materials, processing/mending materials, merchandising collections, creating written content, etc.
- Help people navigate library services. May include helping with patron registration & accounts, maintaining catalog records, resolving routine problems with library equipment & services, providing instruction or recommendations, etc.
- Assist with library and/or Town programs, promotions, and initiatives. This may include leading a story time, coordinating a book group, assisting with the launch of new service, contributing to social media, serving on a library or Town-wide committee, etc.
- Perform other tasks as required.
Supervision
Work may require the direction of volunteers or interns.
Physical Demands
The work is performed sitting, standing, walking, squatting, reaching, and bending. The employee uses equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity. May require lifting 10-15 pounds.
Work Environment
The work is typically performed in an office environment.

Minimum Qualifications:
An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the job.
Formal Education
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
Experience
Minimum one year experience in a customer service environment required. Library or bookstore experience preferred.
