If you are considering sending an application, make sure to hit the apply button below after reading through the entire description.Primary Responsibilities The Library Director must balance the management of a not-for-profit organization with the more personal and social needs of its patrons.Library Management
Provide Library patrons with direction and advice, information on research and reading, both print and digital.Check materials into and out of the Library and through the Integrated Library System software.Manage the acquisition and deaccession of the Library’s collection.Supervise staff, both employees and volunteers.Ensure adherence to all Library policies.Maintain the inventory of supplies.Maintain the Library’s property, including computers in good condition.Develop appropriate programs, events, and activities in the Library.Relationship Management
Local Community:
Convey feedback from the community to the Board.Write Director’s report for the monthly Newsletter.Forward Board-authorized communications to patrons.Attend as many Library events as possible.
The Library Board of Trustees:
Act in concert with the Board of Trustees.Prepare Director’s report and present at Board meetings which fall on the morning of the second Sunday of the month.Attend and present Director’s report at the annual meeting of the Library Association.Assist in preparation of all required reports.
Ramapo Catskill Library Services (RCLS):
Function as primary interface between RCLS and the Board of Trustees.Attend RCLS’ monthly Directors’ Association meetings and other RCLS meetings as necessary and pertinent.Prepare and submit to RCLS relevant sections of the Annual Report required by New York State.
Required Skill Sets
Knowledge of traditional Library operations.Manage the Library’s budget.Computer Skills:
Fluent with both Apple and PC.Familiar with internet navigation and email.Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel.
Demonstrable written and oral communication skills.Education Minimum requirement is a high school diploma or equivalent and relevant experience. Bachelor’s degree or higher is a plus.Preferred Skills and Accomplishments
Familiarity with SEAL and Blue Cloud Analytics.Experience managing employee/volunteer staff.Experience with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.Hours The Library is open 23 hours a week across 4 days a week. Since the Library is sometimes staffed with part-time employees and volunteers, there can be flexibility in arranging schedules.
