Job Summary
Reporting to the VP of Investor Relations and Communications, the Director of Communications and Investor Relations will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing strategic communications and investor relations initiatives to enhance the company's reputation, foster transparent engagement with stakeholders, and ensure cohesive messaging across all platforms and operations. The role will be pivotal in supporting the company's mission to position itself as a leading intermediate gold producer. The incumbent will work closely with the VP of Investor Relations and Communications, corporate executives, local communications teams, and investor relations representatives to create compelling narratives that align with the company's strategic priorities.
Working Conditions
The position of the Director of Communications and Investor Relations will be based in GMIN's office in Toronto, with flexibility for telecommuting.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Communications
• Works with the VP to develop, lead and implement the overall internal communications strategy and manages the operating plan to deliver clear, and effective internal communications. This includes the development and implementation of a strategic and integrated approach to internal communications messaging aligned to GMIN's values, strategy and objectives.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries and act as spokesperson when required.
• Manage the creation and dissemination of company internal newsletters, communique, and other communication materials.
• Lead and collaborate with local communications departments in Brazil and Guyana to ensure consistent messaging and alignment with corporate objectives.
• Can articulate GMIN's investor relations strategies, communicate results, opportunities and challenges to the Company's executive leadership team and the Company's board of directors.
• Support external communications as needed.
2. Investor Relations
• Support the VP of Investor Relations and Communications in managing relationships with institutional investors, analysts, and other financial stakeholders.
• Assist in preparing investor presentations, quarterly earnings calls, and annual reports.
• Track investor perceptions, market trends, and shareholder feedback to provide strategic insights to senior management.
• Represent the company at investor conferences and events as needed.
3. Stakeholder Engagement and Reputation Management
• Develop proactive communications strategies to engage community stakeholders, government officials, and regulatory bodies in jurisdictions of GMIN's operations (i.e. Brazil and Guyana currently).
• Establish crisis communications plan, manage crisis communications and issues management, ensuring rapid and effective responses to mitigate potential impacts on reputation.
• Monitor public and media sentiment, addressing any issues proactively to maintain a positive corporate image.
• Advises a network of external communicators on local media issues wherever GMIN operates.
• Oversee the development of digital content, including website management, social media engagement, and multimedia content.
• Create content that reinforces the company's brand and messaging.
• Support the execution of analysts' site visits, investor days, participation in selected conferences and other engagements that drive the investor relations and communications strategy.
4. Team Leadership Coordination
• Provide leadership, guidance, and support to local communications teams in Brazil and Guyana.
• Ensure alignment of corporate and regional communication strategies through regular coordination meetings and site visits.
• Provide communications support to other departments and operational site communications departments which may include development of communications plans, writing, editing and translating materials.
Requirements
Experience
• Demonstrated experience in managing media relations, crisis communications, and stakeholder engagement.
• Experience in managing investor relations activities, including familiarity with financial reporting, investor presentations, and shareholder communication.
• Experience in metals and mining industry.
• Willingness to travel frequently to remote operational sites and engage with local stakeholders, including the local communications teams.
• Willingness to travel occasionally to support the VP at investor conferences and events.
Education/Certification/Designation
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Geoscience, Engineering, Communications, Public Relations or a related field. An MBA or other advanced degree is an asset.
• Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in corporate communications, investor relations, or public affairs, preferably within the natural resources or mining sector.
Technical Skills/Knowledge
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to craft clear, compelling narratives with a high degree of professionalism and business acumen, for diverse audiences.
• Excellent project management and organizational skills, with the capacity to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.
• Experience within publicly listed companies, exposure to global companies with assets outside of North America would be an asset.
• Can view information through marketing, financial and technical lens.
• Excellent Proficiency with Microsoft products including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
• Fluency in Portuguese or French would be an asset.
