About Our Department
The Information Technology Department at Denver Public Library consists of 4 teams: IT Administration, DevOps, Project Management Office, and the Service Desk. DPL’s IT team members are high performing, technically competent, and passionate technology evangelists. Our staff maintain knowledge of technology trends, best practices and industry standards. They are skilled in creative problem solving, adaptive thinking and making connections; and are experienced in bringing projects to a timely completion.
About this role:
- AV Technician positions are fulltime, 40 hours per week.
- The AV Support team is a part of the IT Department, Service Operations Team.
- The AV support team consists of three fulltime AV specialists.
- The AV team reports to the IT Service Operations Manager.
- The AV team also works alongside the DPL Events Management team.
- Schedule: DPL AV support coverage is 8am to 8pm, Mon - Fri. Occasional weekend, holiday, and evening event coverage should be expected, although always discussed/planned-for ahead of time.
- This position is not remote - Onsite presence is required.
- Dress code: Business Casual, Category-1 Event Support - Formal Business Casual.
- AV Technicians should have a very good operational understanding of industry-standard AV equipment, terminology, and architecture.
- AV Technicians manage a computerized, AV-Specific ticket queue, which includes Break-Fix, Service Requests, How-to questions, and event-scheduling.
- Inventory - AV Technicians are responsible for maintaining computerized inventory equipment. DPL’s IT department uses an ITIL-compliant, cloud-based ITAM called Asset Panda.
- AV Technicians are responsible for the physical demands related to maintaining a large equipment storage room, including moving, lifting, relocating, loading, and unloading of equipment up to 30 lbs.
- All IT Service Operations team members regularly maintain technical SOPs, procedures, documentation, operational instructions and/or project or work order status.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Our ideal candidate will have these skills/competencies:
- A solid customer service background in the IT industry and is committed to creating positive experiences for staff.
- Knowledge of Service Desk ticket tracking software.
- Basic knowledge of network architecture and networked desktops including login, file and print functions.
- Ability to complete tasks on time with attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both individuals and groups.
- Ability to use extensive workplace and other technologies including email, internet, databases, and other software.
- Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner.
- Ability to create and maintain positive staff relationships.
- Skill in prioritizing and scheduling work to allow for its efficient and effective completion.
- Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of people.
- Ability to consistently and repeatedly lift 30 pounds.
- Ability to pass a background check after the offer to hire has been made.
- A valid Colorado Driver’s License at the time of application.
- Experience in using library automation systems and web-based applications (preferred, not required).
Minimum Requirements:
- Education Requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
- Education & Experience Equivalency: Additional education or related-job-experience may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement, where appropriate.
- Experience Requirement: Four (4) years of Audio Visual technology experience performing hands-on AV support, maintenance, and event support.

- The Denver Public Library Central branch is located in the heart of downtown Denver. Please be aware employee parking, payment and location, is the responsibility of each staff member. Free curbside parking is usually available within 5 blocks of the downtown area.
- While occasional evening work will be required for periodic off-hours maintenance, the Denver Public Library values work/life balance and offers flexibility in scheduling, remote work, and shared responsibility for after-hours support.
- Although the full salary range for this position is provided, offers are typically made within the starting salary range and depend on qualifications. The City and County of Denver benefit package will be offered.
- Employees may be re-deployed to work in other capacities in their own agencies or in other City agencies to support core functions of the City during a City-wide emergency declared by the Mayor.
