Under direction of the Marketing Coordinator - Zoo, this position will manage the zoo’s social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube) including community management and creating original, compelling and engaging video and photographic content telling Abilene Zoo’s stories and supporting the zoo’s mission of education and conservation.SUPERVISION EXERCISED
This position does not exercise supervisory duties.IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Oversee day-to-day management of organic social media and using calendar management systems, like Sprout Social, post all content across numerous social channels as well as developing content concepts from idea to completion.Maximize consumer engagement on social media, including timely comment and direct message moderation/responses.Work with the Marketing team to brainstorm and develop content and design ideas.Stay up-to-date on new social media trends, tools, techniques, and best practices; monitor competitors and other social media leaders.Monitor and report on social media key performance indicators on an ongoing basis, using data to inform both large and small pivots to improve performance including presenting monthly analytical reports.Work with the Marketing Coordinator - Zoo to ensure content is informative, engaging and on brand in order to enhance the zoo’s online presence, drive engagement and cultivate a strong online community.Utilize strong analytical skills interpreting data to make recommendations for adjusting the social media marketing strategy for optimal results.Design creative for social media posts using either Adobe Creative Suite or Canva in order to develop and curate engaging written, photographic & video content so it aligns with the zoo’s brand and appeals to target audiences.Work with internal teams to schedule photo and video shoots to ensure available content is up to date.Cultivate relationships with the zoo team to develop open communication about what events and stories are happening to promote zoo happenings including, but not limited to special events, fundraisers, animal exhibits, and conservation initiatives.Responsible for curating, organizing and managing digital assets, including images, videos, testimonials, reviews, etc.Assist the Marketing Coordinator - Zoo with the management of guest bloggers/influencers.Operate City vehicles, zoo rides, attractions, and other motorized equipment.OTHER JOB RELATED DUTIES

Knowledge of:Social media principles utilized within the industry.Operating a DSLR camera, smartphone camera, and video camera with an eye for capturing captivating visuals.Operating various computer applications programs such as Adobe Creative Suite, Constant Contact, Sprout Social, Google Sheets, Google Docs, Google Slides and all social media platforms.Skill to:Be flexible, detail-oriented, organized while responding to multiple demands.Be a self-starter with the ability to work independently as well as with a team.Have strong interpersonal skills including the ability to listen perceptively.Exhibit exceptional written and oral communication skills including strong writing, editing and presentation abilities.Exhibit excellent computer skills including all Microsoft Office programs especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Mail and Adobe Creative Suite.Ability to:Tell compelling stories through photographic and video graphic production and editing.Maintain open, timely and accurate communication with direct leadership.Have a strong affinity for the mission of the Abilene Zoo.Help author and/or edit content for the zoo's website, social media, and newsletters.Work independently with minimal supervision while having a professional demeanor and appearance.Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, both internally and externally.Follow and embrace the City of Abilene Core Values – Respect, Integrity, Service Above Self, and Excellence in All We Do.Perform as a team member in a manner that accomplishes the Division’s mission and treats team members with dignity, courtesy, and respect.EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:
For positions with more than one level, all listed requirements at the lower levels are required at the higher levels. Any combination equivalent to experience and training to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be qualifying. Knowledge, skills, and abilities may be obtained through:Experience:One (1) year of related experience in marketing and/or social media in a professional setting is preferred.Education/Training:Bachelor’s Degree in communications, marketing, or a related field from an accredited college or university is preferred.License or Certificate:A valid Texas driver’s license, the ability to obtain one within ninety (90) days of employment, or a military waiver is required.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:Must be able to periodically work outside regular business hours, including occasional evenings and weekends.With or without accommodation, the “X” indicates the overall strength demand of the position during a typical workday:___ Sedentary – lifting of no more than 10 pounds___ Light – lifting no more than 20 pounds; carrying up to 10 pounds_X_ Medium – lifting no more than 50 pounds; carrying up to 25 pounds___ Heavy – lifting no more than 100 pounds; carrying up to 50 pounds___ Very Heavy – team lifting over 100 pounds; carrying more than 50 poundsPhysical Demand Codes:
