Summary Description

The Library Desk Clerk provides customer service to library patrons, performs clerical work relating to the public services, and assists in other support tasks as assigned. The current work schedule is Wednesday and Thursday: 1:45pm - 8:15pm, Friday: 8:45am-5:15pm/9:45am-6:15pm, Saturday 8:15am-4:15pm (Friday and Saturday shifts are on a rotation). These hours may change to suit the needs of the library.
Duties, Functions and Supervision/Accountability
Provide high quality customer service to patrons in a confidential manner via various communication methods, and a focus on circulation, technology and readers' advisory.
Perform functions related to the circulation of library materials such as check library materials in/out, library card registration, curbside service delivery, alphabetical and Dewey Decimal System sorting, collect fines and fees, and shelve library materials.
Answer basic reference questions and refer more detailed inquires to professional staff.
Participate in the maintenance of the library collection and inventory such as making minor repairs to library materials and equipment and bringing non-working or poor condition items to the attention of appropriate staff.
Receive and process all incoming/outgoing mail, parcels and shipments.
Complete opening and closing procedures as directed.
Plan, prioritize, and organize workloads and assignments.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Three (3) or more year's customer service experience preferred.
Strong customer service and communication skills required, preferably in a public library setting

This position will be scheduled for 20 hours per week (1040 hours per year). The regular schedule of this position is: Wednesday and Thursday: 1:45-8:15; Friday: 8:45-5:15/9:45-6:15, Saturday: 8:15-4:15 (Friday and Saturday shifts are on a rotation).
