Position Overview
Join our team at Cumberland County Public Library, where service meets community impact. As a significant part of county government, the library provides a wide range of informational and recreational resources to residents of Cumberland County and neighboring areas. In this role, you'll perform essential circulation duties and deliver proactive, friendly customer service to ensure patrons have an exceptional experience. Examples of Duties
- Meets customer needs by performing circulation duties that include check out and check in of library materials; registration of new library accounts and updating existing accounts; explaining and collecting fines & fees
- Assist customers with author, title and subject searches; and placing requests on unavailable items for customers
- Answers phones and queries and/or refers to correct department; promotes library services and programs
- Selling of Friends of the Library merchandise and discarded materials
- May go to the bank to pick up change for the change machine and/or cash register
High school diploma or GED and one (1) year of public contact experience and familiarity with basic library procedures and a demonstrated knowledge of computers. Must be able to spell accurately and possess keyboarding skills.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Knowledge of library policies and procedures regarding card registration, public computer use, and fee assessments
- Knowledge of the library collection
- Knowledge of online public catalog
- Knowledge on the use of photocopiers, fax, and change machines, public computer reservation software, room reservation software and self-checkout machines
- Knowledge of current resources and content available on the library website
- Ability to operate library automation system and the online public catalog
- Ability to maintain accurate statistics and prepare routine reports
- Ability to follow instructions
- Ability to communicate clearly
- Ability to maintain effective working and interpersonal relationships with co-workers and the general public
