The following information provides an overview of the skills, qualities, and qualifications needed for this role.Kairos Power is a new nuclear energy technology and engineering company whose mission is to enable the world’s transition to clean energy, with the ultimate goal to dramatically improve people’s quality of life while protecting the environment. This goal will be accomplished through the commercialization of the fluoride-salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor (FHR) that can be deployed with robust safety, affordable costs, and flexible operation to accommodate the expansion of variable renewables.
Job Summary
Kairos Power is seeking a highly motivated Structural Designer to develop models and drawings for structures and implement them in Navisworks in a timely manner to support customer timelines.
Responsibilities
Produce structural models and construction documents that comply with design criteria, contract requirements, and applicable codes by working closely with multiple design disciplines.
Partner closely with senior level civil/structural engineers.
Interpret schematic drawings, layouts, and other visual aids.
Assess the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering/design assumptions, analysis methods and procedures, and chosen solutions.
Perform updates to drawings from data supplied.
Comply with all company and customer procedures, engineering practices, and other standards.
Apply client Engineering Standards as part of day-to-day technical support of assignments.
Qualifications
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Civil or Structural Engineering Technology, drafting and design, or other related design discipline.
5+ years of demonstrated experience in civil/structural engineering design/drafting.
Ability to lay out structural grids, beams, girders, joists, foundations, and to cut appropriate sections and details to communicate structural design effectively with minimal input from the structural engineer.
Ideal candidate would be able to complete the structural drawings to an 80% level with only verbal instructions from the structural engineer.
Production-oriented and proficient in AutoCAD Plant 3D, CADWorx Structure (or equivalent), but AVEVA E3D or PDMS structural module preferred.
Expert user of Navisworks.
Strong working knowledge of ANSI/AWS A2.4 welding standards desired.
Field walkdown experience of process plants desired.
Proven ability to create and maintain cross-functional working relationships and communicate design concepts and information with technicians, engineers, and manufacturing personnel.
Ability to function in a fast-paced small company environment with minimal direction and adjust workload based upon changing priorities.
Strong interpersonal, written, presentation, and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work with a highly collaborative team.
Ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently.
Prioritizes and ensures safety of oneself and others.
Ability to proactively collect, manage, and transfer knowledge.
Ability to seek different and novel ways to create efficiencies when working on problems, challenges, and issues.

The hourly range for this position is $42.36-$54.62 for employees working onsite at our Alameda, CA headquarters or $38.08-$44.81 for remote employees working in California. The range provided in this job posting represents the typical range or starting rate of candidates hired in California.
