JOB DESCRIPTION
Content creators: Be a part of something completely different, from the ground up! Help design and implement a late news product that is nothing like you’ve ever done before, with a digital audience in mind.
FOX 26 in Houston is hiring a producer to help create and launch a compelling, urgent, informative, and entertaining late news show. This is an ultra-competitive news town, but our evening news block is consistently #1 in the market and we’re hoping to bring something fresh and innovative to the 10pm news landscape. We’re looking for a content rockstar who can move seamlessly from breaking news and severe weather coverage to creative, digitally focused news segments that set us far apart from the competition.
You’ll need the ability to see each news segment as a stand-alone digital product and be able to produce each segment for both linear and digital audiences. You’ll need to maintain a close relationship with our digital team to make sure everything we do is tailored for the platforms we serve. Other skills we’re looking for include concise, accurate and audience focused writing skills, the ability to edit video in support of segments, plus knowledge of social media best practices.
You’ll participate in a unique editorial process with your anchor, field reporters, assignment desk team members and managers, developing video and graphic elements for each story and designing reporter hits that don’t fit into traditional norms. You’ll work closely with your Meteorologist to scrap the traditional forecast in favor of a weather segment that’s clickable, shareable and memorable on good weather days and high-impact days.
You’ll also have opportunities to produce news and sports specials, field produce big events and take on other special projects.
Requirements: Minimum 4 years’ experience as a producer in a medium or large market is preferred. Bachelor's Degree required, journalism or a related field preferred. Must be able to work under pressure, meet strict deadlines and multitask. Ideal candidate has familiarity with newsroom computer systems, graphics programs and video editing software. Houston experiences year-round severe weather and frequent wall-to-wall breaking news. Newsroom staff must be available to work on site or in the field when scheduled during high-impact events or local emergency situations.
We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, gender identity, disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law. We will consider for employment qualified applicants with criminal histories consistent with applicable law.
Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $65,000.00-69,000.00 annually for high cost labour markets such as but not limited to New York City and Los Angeles, $54,100.00-57,500.00 annually for all other US locations. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
