Work Schedule: University Business hours are Monday - Friday 8AM - 5PM. The Libraries supports flexible work arrangements based on departmental and operational needs. This position will require frequent onsite work.

The NC State University Libraries invites applications for the position of Data Science Teaching Librarian. The Data & Visualization Services (DVS) department helps students and researchers develop critical data science and visualization skills through expert consultation, workshops, and classroom instruction. The department supports a wide range of data lifecycle activities including data collection, discovery, access, evaluation, cleaning, preprocessing, transformation, modeling, analysis, geospatial techniques, and visualization.
The Data Science Teaching Librarian designs, develops, and delivers training sessions on data and visualization topics. They coordinate the DVS open workshop series and/or instruction program, including creating and documenting procedures, tracking completion of assessment needs, reviewing and assessing offerings, and developing outreach strategies. They conduct outreach to engage with faculty, campus groups, and external partners to support the university’s data and visualization needs. They provide consultative support for students, faculty, and researchers on data science and visualization topics.
Minimum Qualifications
- ALA-accredited MLS, MIS, or equivalent advanced degree
- Experience developing and delivering instruction, workshops, or training on data topics and/or tools
- Proficiency with at least one application or programming language for preparing, analyzing, or visualizing data
- Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new technical skills and tools
- Knowledge of the provision of data services in academic environments
- Ability to foster an environment of belonging and well-being
- Ability to communicate clearly and knowledgeably
- Evidence of ongoing professional development and contribution to the library profession
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively and work in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Python, R, and/or other programming languages for data transformation, analysis, and visualization
- Knowledge of instructional design and pedagogical principles for teaching data topics
- Experience working in an academic library
