THOR is the International Mountain Biking Association Chapter for Eastern Nebraska and Western Iowa. Founded in 1996, THOR builds and maintains natural surface trails and trail systems in Eastern Nebraska and Western Iowa through agreements with cities, states, and other public and private land managers.

Summary
The Media & Communications Coordinator plays a critical collaborative role in shaping and managing THOR’s brand image and social media presence. This individual will collaborate closely with the Marketing Director to create engaging, brand-focused content, ensuring social media channels remain dynamic and relevant. They will oversee social media management tools (such as Google Workspace, Canva, and Meta Dashboard), aiding in content planning, scheduling, and publishing across various platforms while monitoring activity, tracking conversations, and analyzing performance.
As a key THOR team member, the Media & Communications Coordinator supports strategic communications with the public and stakeholders. This role collaborates closely with the Community Education & Engagement Director, Program & Volunteer Coordinator, Trails Director, and other team and community members to deliver critical messaging and align communications with organizational goals.
The ideal candidate will possess genuine enthusiasm and experience for the outdoors, advocacy, community and environmental education, and working in diverse communities. The ideal candidate will envision equitable access to nature and outdoor spaces for everyone to move, play, and explore.
Duties & Key Responsibilities
- Develop, plan, and execute engaging content for THOR’s social media platforms.
- Maintain a consistent and on-brand social media presence across all channels.
- Manage and utilize social media tools (e.g., Monday.com, Canva, Google Workspace, Meta Dashboard) to schedule, publish, and monitor content.
- Track and analyze social media performance metrics to refine strategies and improve engagement.
- Collaborate closely with the Community Education & Engagement Coordinator, including the Executive Director, Community Education & Engagement Director, Trails Director, and Trail Supervisors to craft and deliver effective messaging.
- Directly assist the Marketing & Communications Director in identifying new opportunities and platforms to connect with target audiences.
- Ensure timely and professional responses to social media inquiries, comments, and conversations.
- Coordinate critical communications with the public and stakeholders, ensuring alignment with THOR’s values and mission.
Qualifications
- Strong understanding of social media platforms and tools for management, scheduling, and analytics.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Creative mindset with the ability to craft compelling and engaging content.
- Collaborative and team-oriented approach to work.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Experience in social media management or communications is preferred.

Minimum Duties
- Develop two (2) monthly member and email subscriber newsletters.
- 2 social media posts per week (IG, FB, FBG, LI YouTube Short/IG Reel).
- Project management of 4-6 long form (3-10min) online video stories per year, with videographer and editor support.
- Website updates.
- Webstore management & updates.
- Educational programs and events support and communication.
- Community events support and communication (trail days, rides, socials).
- Trailfest social media campaigns and communication support.
- Annual Member Meeting communication and support.
- Support for Give to Lincoln Day, Give to Omaha Day, Giving Tuesday.
- Trail Ambassador program social media campaigns and support.
- Outdoor Retailer program communication and support.
- Corporate Partnership program social media campaigns and support.
- Fundraising Campaign support.
- Community Art Project social media campaigns and support.
Required Education & Qualifications
- High School Graduate.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Background Check.
- Reliable Transportation.
- Experience in marketing, public relations, or communications.
- Experience in social media trends, social media scheduling apps (Monday.com, Canva, Meta Workspace).
- Proficiency in Google Workspace, Squarespace, and design management tools (Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat, Canva).
Preferred Education & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, or related field.
- Extensive experience in brand building, management, storytelling, design, marketing, and communications across all physical and digital media forms.
- Proficiency in riding a mountain bike.
Work Environment
THOR is a dynamic, remotely distributed team that serves the community at varying times, including occasional weekend or evening hours, to support our programs or monitor or respond to social media activity during key events or campaigns. We are a task, result, and impact-oriented, individually responsible team focused on continuous creativity and iterative improvement. We do not have a fixed schedule, although the entire team is generally available for each other and the public we serve during typical working days and times.
This is a remote position; however, the candidate must be located in Greater Omaha-Metro of Nebraska to support local trail promotions, attend community events, participate in in-person team meetings, and collaborate effectively with the team. While much of the work can be done remotely, a strong local presence is essential for engaging with the community and ensuring successful on-the-ground initiatives.
Compensation
The salary is $45,000 per year and includes THOR’s benefits package, which includes an annual bonus, a 5% 403(b) contribution, unlimited vacation, a $50/month phone stipend, and mileage reimbursement.
