Position Overview We are seeking an experienced
Land Mobile Radio (LMR) Lead Technician
to install, program, maintain, and repair complex wireless communication systems. This role requires in-depth knowledge of
two-way radio theory, RF propagation, system design, and troubleshooting.
You will work closely with customers, engineers, and field teams to ensure seamless system operation and reliability. MOPA/SCS is willing to provide additional training for highly motivated candidates looking to expand their technical expertise!
Key Responsibilities Install, service, and troubleshoot
LMR radio systems, portable radios, vehicle-mounted radios, base stations, repeaters, and dispatch consoles. Create programming
code plugs
for systems such as
P25 radios, Trunked Systems, Pagers, and Conventional Repeaters. Provide
system recommendations and designs
to align with customer communication needs. Diagnose and repair
LMR RF equipment, including VHF, UHF, 700/800/900 MHz systems, and microwave links. Configure and test
channel banks, routers, hubs, and network switches
related to radio system infrastructure. Operate test equipment such as
communications service monitors, watt meters, TDRs, FDRs, and multimeters. Understand
RF propagation characteristics at various frequency bands
to optimize system performance. Work independently or as part of a team to complete projects efficiently and professionally. Develop and present
technical training
for internal teams and customers. Maintain accurate documentation, work orders, and reports using
MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel). Adhere to
industry safety standards
and ensure all work meets regulatory compliance. Perform additional assignments and special projects as needed.
Required Qualifications 3+ years of experience
in
LMR radio systems installation, programming, and servicing. Strong
electronics background
with knowledge of
DC power systems, RF theory, and network integration. Hands-on experience with
radio frequency design, engineering, and troubleshooting. Familiarity with
IP networking, system infrastructure, and IT-based communication systems. Strong problem-solving skills, ability to work in fast-paced environments, and excellent attention to detail. Strong verbal and written communication skills for customer interactions and documentation. Ability to
work independently and manage field projects
with minimal supervision. Valid driver's license with low or no points and the ability to drive company vehicles. Must be able to pass FBI/BCI background checks and obtain security clearances as required. Ability to
be on-call and work flexible hours , including some overnight travel. Ability to climb ladders, work on scissors and bucket lifts, top of buildings, and at heights. Ability to sit, kneel, stand, and work in tight and loud spaces with proper PPE. Ability to work in all weather conditions. Ability to lift
up to 70 lbs.
and work on-site in varying conditions.
Preferred Qualifications (Not Required, But a Plus!) FCC license (Amateur, GMRS, GROL). General Communications System I & II Certified DAS Systems installer and or designer. IT or Networking Certifications (CompTIA Network+, Cisco, etc.). Installation of LMR equipment at sites Tower climbing experience Knowledge of
dispatch centers and equipment installation and maintenance at these sites. ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification
for vehicle radio installations. Experience in
public safety communication systems
and interoperability solutions.
