Job Summary
Your mission is to lead strategic, creative communications—both internal and external—that amplify La Cocina’s mission, 20-year legacy of impact, award-winning reputation, and the stories of over 100 entrepreneurs. This role promotes La Cocina’s core services and events through high-quality storytelling across channels, increasing visibility that generates opportunity, drives economic development, and supports the long-term success of the organization and entrepreneurs.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT IN THE COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER ROLE AT LA COCINA
Centering Entrepreneurs: Dedicate 5% of your time directly supporting and engaging with program participants and graduates through technical assistance and curriculum support, event participation, and business promotion. This hands-on involvement varies by role and leverages your unique skills, interests Commitment to Mission, Vision, Values: Champion La Cocina's goals while upholding our core values of hospitality, community, opportunity, and inclusivity Organizational Stewardship: Participate in annual planning, budgeting, staff review processes, and recruiting initiatives as part of our collaborative culture focused on collective growth Serve as Communications Strategist & Storyteller Champion: Lead mission-aligned messaging that supports organization objectives and elevates entrepreneurs' voices through compelling narratives, increasing awareness and driving engagement across all channels: Write and develop compelling content that captures entrepreneur journeys and La Cocina’s impact; create storytelling strategies and tactics that engage diverse stakeholders across platforms; maintain and manage the communications calendar Oversee communications across digital platforms, print collateral, and media outreach to maintain consistent, mission-connected storytelling Manage consulting partners in design, PR, and social media for cohesive brand execution Lead marketing communications for campaigns, events, and initiatives; monitor effectiveness and adjust as needed Facilitate internal communications to maintain team alignment and shared messaging Maintain brand consistency and quality control across all external materials Monitor communication channel metrics and prepare reports to inform strategy and demonstrate impact, assessing and adapting strategies Maintain accurate reporting in systems including Salesforce to support impact measurement Collaborate across teams (Development, Program, and Sales) to support storytelling, fundraising, and sales efforts Serve as La Cocina ambassador with strong knowledge of food equity and social justice movements and emerging trends, sharing insights to inform communications approach
WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE TABLE AT LA COCINA
Proven success leading multi-channel communications strategies and campaigns Portfolio demonstrating a range of content creation, storytelling, and measurable campaign impact Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English (verbal and written) strongly preferred Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain internal and external partnerships Experience managing consulting partners, creative teams, and external collaborators Project management skills to coordinate complex initiatives with multiple stakeholders and tight deadlines Proficiency or adaptability with La Cocina’s tools and platforms (Notion, Slack, Google Drive, Mailchimp, Salesforce, Eventbrite, Squarespace, Webflow, Canva) Strong written, verbal, and public speaking skills to engage diverse stakeholders Social media expertise (Instagram, LinkedIn) with strategic insight into brand voice, content, and audience growth Exceptional storytelling skills across formats and audiences, with a focus on compelling, mission-aligned narratives Experience in nonprofit, social justice, or food industry communications, with a commitment to ongoing learning in immigrant justice, racial equity, and economic development Strategic thinking to connect communications to organizational goals and broader social movements Ability to adapt to emerging situations, shifting priorities, and unexpected opportunities in a mission-driven environment Crisis communication skills with the ability to respond calmly, empathetically, and in alignment with organizational values
TIME OFF RESTRICTIONS: Availability required during large-scope organizational events, development events, and targeted fundraising periods.
