Pay: $40,000-$44,000
Job Summary:
The Public Relations & Social Media Manager will lead the museum’s public relations and digital communications efforts, ensuring broad public awareness and engagement with its exhibitions, programs, and institutional initiatives. This role serves as the primary media liaison while also developing and executing a dynamic social media strategy to enhance the museum’s visibility, engagement, and brand identity across multiple platforms.
The ideal candidate is a strategic communicator, creative storyteller, and digital expert with experience in media relations, content creation, and audience engagement. This role requires a passion for art and culture, excellent writing skills, and the ability to cultivate relationships with journalists, influencers, and online communities.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Public Relations & Media Strategy
- Develop and execute a comprehensive PR plan aligned with the museum’s mission and goals.
- Identify and secure media coverage for exhibitions, acquisitions, programs, and institutional initiatives and assist with crisis communication strategies.
- Act as the museum’s primary media contact, handling press inquiries and coordinating interviews, press previews, and media visits.
- Build and maintain relationships with journalists, editors, influencers, and media professionals across print, digital, TV, and radio.
- Write and distribute press releases, media kits, and feature stories that highlight the museum’s impact and offerings.
- Develop and implement a strategic social media plan to increase engagement and audience reach.
- Manage the museum’s presence across Instagram, Facebook, X (Twitter), TikTok, LinkedIn, and YouTube, ensuring content is compelling, on-brand, and platform-optimized.
- Stay updated on digital trends, platform updates, and emerging technologies to maintain an innovative and effective social media presence.
- Track engagement and analyze campaign effectiveness to refine content and strategies.
- Content Creation & Storytelling
- Create high-quality, engaging multimedia content (videos, photos, graphics, and written posts) that highlight exhibitions, events, and behind-the-scenes moments.
- Write compelling, on-brand captions and posts that align with the museum’s tone and messaging.
- Oversee video production and photography for social media, ensuring visually appealing and high-quality content.
- Collaborate with various departments to develop storytelling opportunities that resonate with diverse audiences.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Digital Media, or a related field.
- 4-6 years of experience in public relations, social media management, or digital marketing, preferably in the arts, culture, or nonprofit sector.
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with experience crafting compelling press materials and social content.
- Proven track record of securing media coverage and building relationships with journalists and influencers.
- Expertise in social media platforms, digital marketing strategies, and community engagement.
- Experience in video production, photography, and multimedia content creation.
- Proficiency in social media management and analytics tools (e.g., Sprout Social, Hootsuite, Meta Business Suite).
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
- Passion for art, culture, and audience engagement.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in museums, galleries, or cultural institutions.
- Knowledge of press tracking, media monitoring tools, and crisis communication strategies.
- Familiarity with paid social media advertising and SEO best practices.
Physical Requirements

- Working onsite at a desk in a renovated historic building on a 12+ acre campus.
- Standing, walking, bending, climbing stairs, stooping, and lifting up to 20 lbs.
