Job Description
Primary Function of Position
The Instructional Designer is responsible for creating, managing, optimizing, developing, and launching high-quality curricula and learning experiences that support internal onboarding, field trainers, department initiatives, new product development, and technical knowledge delivery for surgeons, residents and fellows, OR staff, and Intuitive employees. This role emphasizes content creation, document design, curriculum development using foundational principles of instructional design, project management, and training. The individual in this role will interact with Intuitive customers, field trainers, engineers, regulatory teams, instructional designers, and multimedia developers to design, develop, and launch training curricula and educational materials that align with global training standards, compliance requirements, and evolving industry needs. The role leverages content design and project management abilities, as well as hands-on application of skills and training delivery.

Essential Job Duties
Training and facilitation: Serve as a da Vinci SP subject matter expert, maintaining up-to-date knowledge, expertise, and certifications to inform and drive training execution and curriculum development. Deliver virtual and in-person training sessions to diverse audiences, applying comprehension of SP learner roles and SP procedural workflow context as needed. Conduct surgeon technical trainings in training lab environment. Conduct technical sign-offs to qualify Intuitive employees on applicable training content in support of SP product and procedure launches. Evaluate various usability factors including regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and procedure-specific nuances, to develop effective training solutions and to influence Intuitive product design for da Vinci SP applications. Provide requirements, support development and integration of advanced training models into SP training experiences. Complete required departmental qualifications and certifications. Collaborate and network with cross-functional experts (e.g., regulatory teams, engineers, field trainers, etc.) and align with evolving global training standards and competency objectives to enhance training effectiveness. Analyze complex da Vinci SP training challenges by evaluating various factors, including regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and learner needs, to develop effective curricula and training solutions, providing design feedback and input based on da Vinci SP expertise. Curriculum design and content development: Create learner-centric experiences, journeys, and training strategy that adhere to adult learning theory and instructional design principles. Design and develop accessible, engaging training materials for internal onboarding, commercial training, trainer field support, and hospital Care Teams, including training guides, videos, scripts, e-learning modules, onboarding modules, assessments, and facilitator presentations. Analyze learner engagement, feedback and assessment results to make data-informed improvements to training materials, ensuring relevance and impact in real-world applications. Apply team best practices on instructional strategies, assessment techniques, and evaluation criteria to deliver measurable learning outcomes. Design competency-based assessments and certification programs to enable role and competency-based skill progression. Lead, support, and/or participate in video production, scheduling, and logistics. Lead projects tailored to innovative training solutions, curricula design, and educational materials that address complex challenges while aligning with company objectives and global compliance standards. Project management and communication: Independently manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with a strong ability to change direction based on business needs. Represent the education team in high-level discussions on curriculum development, compliance training, and industry best practices. Lead project management initiatives for curriculum global expansion and new product development (NPD). Coordinate and collaborate with internal teams, external partners, and diverse stakeholders. Engage leadership to advocate for reprocessing education initiatives, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and the development of high-quality curricula and training programs. Participate in organizational and departmental-led initiatives to drive operational excellence, efficiency, process standardization, and improved workflows. Support video scheduling, production, and operational logistics. Mentor and support onboarding of new hires and other team members.

Required Skills And Experience
3-5 years in training facilitation/delivery, content development, curriculum design, and project management with 2+ years of experience training or teaching on da Vinci SP. Self-starter who is solution-oriented and execution-oriented. Experienced multi-tasker; ability to manage multiple assignments and successfully meet deadlines Capacity and willingness to work both independently and collaboratively on projects with aggressive timelines. Strong skills in writing, editing, and structuring training and instructional materials. Expertise in conducting content and curricula reviews to ensure alignment with learning objectives and organizational standards. High capacity to analyze complex challenges, evaluate data, organize information, and implement creative solutions. Experience in data analysis and developing data-driven strategies. Thrives in dynamic, team-oriented environments, demonstrating adaptability, growth mindset, and resultsfocused approach. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with internal cross-functional teams and external partners. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, InDesign, Adobe Acrobat
Required Education And Training
Bachelor’s degree or above (Business Management, Engineering, or Science degree preferred; education or marketing degree acceptable). Proficiency in using content design tools (Microsoft, Adobe Acrobat, InDesign). Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams). Strong project management experience (Smartsheet preferred).
Working Conditions
Ability to sit or stand for multiple hours. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Ability to travel up to 15%. Ability to work in lab environments with specialized equipment or models.
Preferred Skills And Experience
Background in healthcare training . Experience creating educational materials for adult learners and delivering training. Experience in creating content for global audiences and compliance-driven training programs. Medical device experience or clinical / operating room experience.

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, benefits, and equity. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including experience, skills, and qualifications. The target salary ranges are listed.
