Summary: For 150 years, the San Francisco SPCA has been a cherished San Francisco institution, known for compassion, excellence, and innovation. We are seeking a mission-driven Communications Coordinator to support internal and external communications, events, and administrative functions within the Marketing and Communications team. This role ensures the team operates efficiently and effectively.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable balancing multiple responsibilities. They will support management in strategic communications, coordinate events, monitor public email inboxes, and track editorial content to ensure consistency and engagement. We believe a strong, well-connected team makes all the difference. This role is based in our San Francisco office in a hybrid capacity, with a minimum of two days in the office each week, and reports to the Vice President of Marketing and Communications.
Core Responsibilities:
Supports management in strategic internal and external communications. Assists in event coordination, including scheduling, logistics, vendor communication, and on-site support. Regularly monitors public email inboxes and ensures timely responses. Enhances team effectiveness by organizing offsites, tracking team objectives, and managing team agendas. Partners with Project Manager to support editorial calendar maintenance while independently managing a story bank and other content repositories to ensure a steady pipeline of compelling narratives. Manages team materials, communication systems, and archiving processes. Coordinates vendor setup and billing processes. Assists with additional administrative needs as required. Practice and encourage the humane treatment of animals. Provide excellent customer service to clients, volunteers, and staff while actively promoting our mission. Promote donation and giving opportunities as appropriate. Other duties as assigned Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
Regularly sits at a computer station and operates electronic equipment for 6 to 7 hours per day. Periodically moves about the campus to coordinate work. Typically stands, bends, stoops, and crouches while working special events. Frequently lifts, carries, and positions objects weighing up to 15 pounds when moving supplies and managing special events. Consistently exposed to animals and animal allergens under conditions with limited alternatives available. Requirements
Education and Experience (Required):
2+ years of experience in communications, marketing, administration, or a related field. Experience coordinating events, managing schedules, and supporting teams in an administrative capacity. Familiarity with editorial processes, communications systems, and content planning tools is a plus. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of problem-solving independently. Ability to work effectively across teams and collaborate with various stakeholders. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and comfort with content management tools. Understanding of digital marketing and communications best practices is a plus. Salary & Benefits
The starting salary for this position depends on the depth and breadth of experience. The expected range is $31.00 - $34.00 / hour.
