Description Engaging. Connected. Creative. Norfolk's Communications and Marketing team is seeking a Multimedia Communications Specialist II with a passion for public service, public participation and collaboration. Our Multimedia Communications Specialist II accepts the challenge of creating engaging content which demonstrates partnerships between the City and its stakeholders. The Multimedia Communications Specialist II works collaboratively and proactively within the external communications team to create compelling content to increase engagement with the public.
Multimedia Communications Specialist II duties focus primarily on managing projects to create graphics for social media, print collateral, large-scale projects and website material.
The Multimedia Communications Specialist II serves as an ambassador of the Department of Communications and Marketing and is expected to embody the City's core values. This position offers potential for professional and career advancement for the successful candidate who demonstrates outstanding attention to detail and organizational skills, significant experience in creative and strategic project management and a high degree of enthusiasm for public service in a demanding but supportive communications environment.

Essential Functions
Norfolk's Communications and Marketing team is seeking a Multimedia Communications Specialist II with a passion for public service, public participation and collaboration. Multimedia Communications Specialist II duties focus primarily on managing projects to create graphics for social media, print collateral, large-scale projects and website material. Education/Experience
Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
Required:
2 years of experience in marketing and communications field. Strong Microsoft office experience (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint) Graphic design experience required Creative, strategic approach to managing projects Experience working collaboratively in a team Experience prioritizing meeting deadlines Decision making skills Experience working with social media and websites/web platforms Experience with Adobe Creative Suite Photography experience
Additional Information & Requirements
Work Schedule:
Monday-Friday Core Business Hours; nights and weekends as needed Regular full-time and permanent part-time employees

Special project/grant employees

Retirement If you are hired October 5, 2010, or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
The Tuition Assistance Program
is established to encourage employees toward continued self-development and education. Permanent full-time and permanent part-time classified, unclassified permanent, full-time special projects, and constitutional employees who have completed six months continuous service will be eligible to apply. The applicant's school of enrollment must be an accredited institution.
