Overview
Senior Technical Writer
As our client accelerates its digital transformation, our API platform underpins our next-generation banking services. Built on a modern developer hub platform (e.g., ReadMe, Stoplight, GitBook), this portal is central to our API-first strategy. We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Senior Technical Writer to create its foundational content. This is not a traditional documentation role; you will be instrumental in building our developer content strategy from the ground up. You will act as a critical conduit between our product managers, API developers, and the business, translating complex financial systems and technical specifications into clear, precise, and practical documentation. Your work will directly impact the developer experience (DX) and accelerate the adoption of the APIs by a sophisticated audience of FinTechs, corporate clients, and third-party developers.
Key Responsibilities
- Create Content & Strategy: Author, edit, and maintain a full spectrum of developer-focused content, including comprehensive Guides (the "user manual" for an API), practical Recipes (achieving business outcomes with code and endpoints), and detailed API reference specifications (the "dictionary").
- Leverage AI Tools: Utilize generative AI and prompt engineering to accelerate content ideation and research, applying rigorous oversight and expert editing to maintain accuracy and clarity.
- Communicate Visually: Create and embed clear visual aids, such as sequence diagrams for API flows using text-based tools (e.g., Mermaid.js), to simplify complex system interactions.
- Engage SMEs: Proactively conduct interviews and discovery sessions with subject matter experts across engineering, product, and business lines to distill complex technical details and business logic.
- Advocate for Developers: Champion the developer experience (DX) by deeply understanding the end-to-end developer journeyfrom initial discovery to successful integrationand use that insight to shape the portals information architecture and content strategy.
- Perform Technical Validation: Execute API requests, analyze responses, and verify that code samples and documentation accurately reflect API behavior and functionality.
- Architect Information: Structure and organize a large, complex body of documentation to be intuitive, searchable, and aligned with developer workflows.
- Collaborate Agilely: Work within an agile framework, partnering closely with engineering teams throughout the development lifecycle to ensure documentation is created in parallel with new features and products.
Qualifications & Experience
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience as a Technical Writer, Content Strategist, or Developer Advocate focused on software developer audiences.
- Demonstrated experience creating API documentation from scratch for REST APIs, and a strong understanding of API principles and design.
- Proficiency with a docs-as-code workflow, including use of Git (e.g., branching, pull requests), authoring in modern markup languages like MDX, and creating diagrams with text-based tools like Mermaid.js or PlantUML.
- Exceptional interviewing and information-gathering skills, with a proven ability to extract technical details from engineers who are focused on building.
- Proficiency with API documentation tools and standards (e.g., OpenAPI/Swagger, Stoplight, Postman, Insomnia).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Significant experience documenting complex APIs for a prominent SaaS or technology company renowned for its developer ecosystem (e.g., Stripe, Twilio, Plaid, Salesforce).
- Direct experience in the FinTech sector, particularly with embedded finance or open banking platforms focused on payments or Banking-as-a-Service.
- Deep expertise in commercial banking and payment systems, with 810+ years working with ACH, Wire Transfers, Real-Time Payments, card processing, or other core banking APIs.
