SUMMARY OF PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Performs diverse duties that focus on educating, engaging, and developing community relationships. Tasks include, but are not limited to, coordinating and conducting science education programs and outreach material, recruiting and coordinating volunteers, crafting regular newsletters and managing social media engagement, and assisting with program development and events. Below are examples of tasks that can be modified given the successful candidate’s skill set.
Science Communication
- Creates a comprehensive toolbox of educational materials to educate adult and youth audiences about Indian River Lagoon ecology, health, and restoration. This includes infographics, presentations, publications, videos, newsletters, social media content, and other materials, including annual reports.
- Schedules and conducts education-based field trips, workshops, presentations, and events.
- Creates flyers, press releases, printed materials, advertising, etc. with input and assistance from other staff.
- Coordinates organization’s email communications, online publications, monthly newsletter, monthly seminar series, and social media.
Development
- Works with Executive Director to develop and implement cost-effective fund development program involving individuals, corporate sponsors, and foundations.
- Works with the Executive Director on fundraising events and campaigns.
- Manages outreach to promote MRC’s programs and services.
- Manages corporate sponsorships and benefits.
- Works with appropriate staff on contracts and grants.
Volunteer Management
- Works with MRC team to identify and define volunteer opportunities and acts as MRC’s initial contact with potential volunteers.
- Maintains and cultivates volunteer relationships, including developing strategies to recruit, retain, and reward volunteers.
- Works with MRC team to maintain volunteer records and hours.
- Updates MRC’s Volunteer Manual that includes volunteer job descriptions, risk and liability protection, retention and appreciation.
Performs additional responsibilities related to the success of the organization.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in:
oEnvironmental science, natural science, science education, or related field.
oOR marketing
oOR business
oMaster’s degree and/or teaching certificate preferred
- Demonstrated ability to create original content and programming including presentations, workshops, infographics, events, interpretive content, etc.
- Experience creating and delivering successful, engaging, and mission-related programs in a non-traditional educational environment, such as a nature center, zoo/garden, or museum.
- Evidence of successful development, funding, marketing, and management of programs and events.
- The ideal candidate has excellent project management capabilities and strong social media, writing, and face to face communications skills.
- Administrative capabilities include proposal and report writing, budgeting, fiscal and project tracking and proficient use of Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and Canva/Adobe. Experience with relational databases a plus.
- Must be able to lift 35 pounds and endure outdoor activities, often in heat and humidity.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license, have a reliable vehicle.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This is a full time (40 hours/week) position on aTuesday through Saturdayschedule with some flexibility for hybrid work. Local travel to other locations for presentations, events, and meetings will be needed for work-related activities.
