Overview
Our mission at Oura is to empower every person to own their inner potential. Our award-winning products help our global community gain a deeper knowledge of their readiness, activity, and sleep quality by using their Oura Ring and its connected app. We've helped millions of people understand and improve their health by providing daily insights and practical steps to inspire healthy lifestyles.
Empowering the world starts with living our values and empowering our team. As a quickly growing company focused on helping people live healthier and happier lives, we ensure that our team members have what they need to do their best work — both in and out of the office.
We are looking for a visionary Vice President of Software Design to lead our software design teams and help establish the San Francisco Design Studio as a center of excellence for product creation. Reporting to ŌURA’s Chief Design Officer, this leader will play a critical role in shaping the future of our digital experiences. To design in this context is to craft meaningful relationships between humans and technology—to understand humanity, biology, and culture—and to create intuitive, empowering tools that help people live their dreams.
What you will do:
- Lead and inspire ŌURA’s software design teams, setting a high bar for design excellence across mobile, web, and future platforms.
- Define and drive the creative and artistic vision for software experiences that reflect ŌURA’s mission and brand.
- Champion a cohesive, user-centered design language that unifies product experiences and meets strategic business goals.
- Partner with Industrial Design and Interaction Architecture teams to craft seamless, end-to-end integrated experiences.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product, engineering, science, and marketing to embed design deeply into product development cycles.
- Spearhead innovation in emerging technologies, with a strong emphasis on AI-powered, contextual, and agentic interaction models.
- Recruit, develop, and mentor a high-performing software design team, cultivating a culture of excellence, experimentation, and inclusivity.
This is a San Francisco-based role that involves regular interaction and collaboration with Oura colleagues in Finland and across the US.
Requirements
We would love to consider you for this role if you have:
- Bachelor's degree in Design, Fine Arts, HCI, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
- A portfolio that demonstrates excellence in both UI and UX across relevant industries.
- Extensive and diverse experience in leading design teams as a function head, or head of design.
- Passion for building creative teams and conditions for creative excellence.
- Deep understanding of the tech industry; experience with wearable technologies or health-related digital products is a strong plus.
- Demonstrated expertise in designing AI-powered experiences, with a working knowledge of the technologies that enable them.
- Exceptional communication, storytelling, and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and align cross-functional stakeholders.
- Experience working within or alongside global organizations, navigating cultural nuances and distributed teams with ease.
