Job Summary The Director of Power Marketing for WM Renewable Energy will manage the off-take from WM Renewable Energy’s power fleet, maximizing revenues for energy, capacity, and renewable energy credits.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.
Leadership
Commercial management of WMRE’s portfolio of power assets.
Works with WMRE senior management to establish strategy and direct resources as appropriate.
Develops strong relationships internally with key WM stakeholders as well as WMRE Operations teams.
Executes sales and hedging strategies while managing risks around WMRE’s power portfolio.
Leads a small team of 3-4 Power employees, responsible for growing, coaching, and motivating them.
Works closely with WM and WMRE functions in plant operations, compliance, and regulatory to establish, manage, and monetize available inventory for sale.
Experienced in marketing RECs, Capacity, and Electricity.
Familiar with energy transaction IT systems and platforms like Nymex, ICE, Nodal, and OTC transactions.
Day-to-Day Activities
Manage/Supervise Day Ahead & Real Time activities at various ISO’s.
Negotiate Power Purchase Agreements.
Manage EMA service providers.
Implement and roll out ICE and NODAL platforms.
Manage WM Renewable Energy’s REC book.
Implement and optimize power hedging strategies.
Bid capacity into utility RFPs.
Collaborate with WM Procurement to lower power costs for the RNG fleet.
Respond to ISO/PUC regulatory requests.
Supervisory Responsibilities Manage 1-5 managerial employees.
Qualifications Education and Experience
Required: Bachelor’s degree with at least 10 years of related experience or equivalent.
Preferred: Master’s degree and 10 years of related experience, preferably in waste or energy industry.
Other Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities
Mathematical skills such as probability and statistical inference.
Ability to analyze scientific, financial, and legal documents.
Effective communication with management, public, and boards.
Problem-solving and data analysis skills.
Work environment includes office setting with occasional physical effort and minimal exposure to occupational risks.
