The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) is seeking a Managing Director of Marketing & Business Development to join our Strategic Growth and Market Development team. This is a high-impact role responsible for leading and executing comprehensive marketing strategies to support NEMA’s revenue-generating programs, including advocacy initiatives and membership development efforts. The ideal candidate is a strategic and creative marketing leader with a strong track record of driving results across digital, traditional, and integrated marketing channels, particularly within a trade association or B2B environment. NEMA represents the manufacturers of electrical equipment and medical imaging devices. Through the collective impact of our 300 member companies and 68 NEMA staff, we are leading the electrical and medical imaging industries into an ever-more electrified future—one defined by network-enabled devices and connectivity, electrified transportation, high-performance building systems, more resilient electrical grids, and advanced manufacturing. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape and elevate NEMA’s brand presence, member engagement, and program success in support of the electroindustry. The Managing Director of Marketing position requires a collaborative, solutions-oriented leader capable of aligning marketing initiatives with NEMA’s business priorities, including the promotion of our intellectual property (IP) offerings, learning and certification programs, and affinity relationships. This position reports to the Vice President, Strategic Growth and Market Development, and is based in Arlington, VA. Key Responsibilities Marketing Strategy and Campaign Execution Develop and implement marketing strategies that support NEMA’s mission, member value proposition, and non-dues revenue goals. Lead integrated marketing campaigns across digital, print, email, social media, and event channels. Collaborate with the Managing Director of Communications to conceptualize, develop, and manage compelling content—including written, visual, and multimedia assets—that effectively communicates NEMA’s value, drives engagement, and supports strategic program objectives. Design, produce, and manage compelling marketing content and collateral for customer and membership recruitment and retention as well as events, programs, and NEMA services. Promote webinars and other events through coordinated campaign planning and calendar development. Use analytics to evaluate campaign performance and guide future strategies. Brand Management and Digital Marketing Lead email marketing strategies, including automation, personalization, and list segmentation to drive engagement and conversions. Manage multimedia platforms and collaborate with internal and external teams to ensure technical infrastructure supports digital outreach efforts. Ensure accuracy and integrity of NEMA’s marketing distribution lists, with a strategic approach to audience segmentation. Support NEMA Communications with implementation and usage of brand guidelines to ensure consistency across all channels, programs, and platforms. Membership, Sponsorship, and Revenue Development Develop compelling, segmented campaigns that articulate the value of NEMA membership, spotlight member success stories, and promote NEMA’s role in advancing the electroindustry. Support the development and execution of integrated marketing strategies to support membership recruitment, retention, and engagement in partnership with NEMA’s Membership Department. Leverage data and insights to tailor messaging for prospective, new, and long-standing members—reinforcing benefits, increasing satisfaction, and member-value. Support the development of sponsorship and stakeholder partnership opportunities that align with NEMA’s strategic objectives. Manage advertising sales, media kits, and agency relationships to optimize revenue and visibility. Collaborate with internal teams to identify enhanced or new revenue opportunities across membership, certification, standards, events, training, and licensing programs. Market Insights and Product Development Support Conduct market research and analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and competitive positioning. Support the development of innovative offerings such as licensing programs, certifications, and learning tools. Align marketing strategies with industry demands and emerging opportunities. Qualifications Master’s degree in marketing, business, communications, or a related field strongly preferred. 12–15 years of progressive marketing experience, ideally in a trade association, nonprofit, or B2B environment. Demonstrated success creating and executing marketing and business development strategies that drive measurable results. Strong project management, organizational, and leadership skills; able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Experience developing partnerships and/or managing sponsorship and advertising sales. Understanding of standards and technical programs strongly preferred. Skilled in using data and analytics to inform decision making. A proactive, creative, and collaborative team player with a passion for innovation and continuous improvement.
