Job Purpose The Director of Music and Liturgy is a vital role that requires vision and execution to enhance the music and liturgy at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and School. In alignment with the pastor's vision, this position directs all aspects of music and liturgy according to the General Instruction of the Roman Missal and Church teachings. The role involves selecting and performing both traditional and contemporary music styles to meet the pastoral and liturgical needs of the parish, fostering an engaging and noble worship experience. The position aims to cultivate a community of active discipleship, where the Gospel is known, loved, and lived through all liturgical celebrations. The parish utilizes the Source and Summit Missals and a parish-created supplemental music book with sixty eclectic pieces. The music program includes a large repertoire for the SATB choir, a Women's Schola focusing on chant and choral works, a praise and worship ensemble for Eucharistic Adoration, and a children's choir during Christmas and Easter. Further development of the music program is expected in collaboration with the pastor. Responsibilities Select music that aligns with weekly Scriptures and Propers in consultation with the pastor. Direct all choirs and ensembles; accompany Masses and special liturgies on organ and piano. Schedule rehearsals and liturgies for musicians, choirs, and cantors. Lead and direct rehearsals for all music groups. Accompany school liturgies and funerals. Coordinate music for weddings with engaged couples and the wedding coordinator. Oversee training, scheduling, and leadership of music ministers. Manage music resources, including library, copyright permissions, and licensing (OneLicense/CCLI). Maintain sound systems and instruments, primarily piano and organ. Collaborate with church and school staff for liturgical planning. Create and publish liturgy guides with proper copyright citations. Prepare cantor scripts for liturgies. Direct liturgical ministries and train volunteers. Ensure scriptural and intercession resources are prepared for all liturgies. Manage sacristy supplies and supervise volunteers for linens and vestments. Participate in staff meetings and retreats. Engage in professional development through workshops and diocesan events. Manage the liturgy budget effectively. Perform other duties as assigned.
