Department: KUHF Radio Salary: 75,100.00 - 95,800.00 Description: Oversees Houston Public Media (HPM) strategy execution of news on all platforms, ensuring collaborative and effective news coverage and marketing. Develops and produces media for various projects in accordance with PBS Editorial Standards. Oversees and provides guidance to producers, reporters, and digital staff. Coordinates media distribution and promotion across all platforms. Develops producers for succession roles within HPM. Understands brands and manages news so products are consistent with brands. Sets coverage expectations well in advance. Performs other job-related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4-year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of five (5) years of directly job-related experience. Additional Information: This position offers an experienced journalist the opportunity to lead a team of reporters in the fourth largest city in the nation. The Executive Producer is one of two EP positions that oversee daily news assignments, in-depth beat coverage, and digital journalism, with responsibility for news planning, assignments, editing, and final production of stories across multiple platforms. The E.P. is a critical thinker, using data analysis, audience engagement, and industry best practices to determine story selection, develop coverage plans, and manage newsroom resources. This is a hands-on role, so the E.P. must be able to edit and produce audio and digital stories and make quick decisions during breaking news situations. The E.P. supervises multiple team members and is expected to provide training and mentorship in the newsroom. The E.P. also works closely with our partners in The Texas Newsroom and NPR to coordinate statewide and national news coverage. This position reports to the Senior News Director. This posting is for one of two Executive Producer positions. The two EPs collaborate closely to ensure timely coverage of daily news, enterprise reporting, and robust digital journalism. One EP will focus primarily on local and statewide daily newscasts and breaking news while one EP will focus primarily on enterprise and digital storytelling. Candidates may be considered for either role. Preferred Qualifications: Strong knowledge of Greater Houston issues and communities. Experience working with outside partners and collaborators. Proven experience in newsroom operations, including writing, editing, fact-checking, and meeting deadlines. Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks. Knowledge of emerging media trends and applications. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment on tight deadlines. Strong editorial judgment and demonstrated track record of breaking or exclusive coverage.
