General Description
The Peabody Preparatory is pleased to announce an opening for an Adjunct Early Childhood Music teaching position in the Early Childhood Music Department at the Peabody Preparatory, a division of the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD. Start date is June 2025.
The successful Early Childhood Music teaching candidate will provide group-based music instruction to students (birth to 5 years of age) and families. The Peabody Preparatory's Early Childhood program is a leading edge, research-based, 20-year established curriculum developed and adapted by Dr. Eric Rasmussen, department chair, from the Music Learning Theory of Dr. Edwin Gordon. Successful candidates will receive training in the Early Childhood Music curriculum at Peabody Preparatory as part of the onboarding process.
Candidates should be experienced in working with young musicians and have basic skills on keyboard, guitar, or other chordal accompanying instruments.
Duties
Depending on location, teaching up to 3 classes per campus over the summer (6 weeks), with classes offered on Saturdays and possibly another weekday morning. During the academic year, up to 4 classes on Saturday mornings and possible weekday morning classes for the fall and spring semesters (32 weeks). Depending on availability, potential additional opportunities are available at other campus locations.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in music, music education, and/or early childhood education is required. Master's degree or equivalent experience and training preferred.
- Documented successful teaching experience required.
- Experience and an exceptional manner with children birth to 5 years.
- Excellent musicianship and comfortable in (and/or able to easily learn) melodies in all tonalities and meters.
- A background in early childhood music is preferred but not required.

Salary Range
The referenced salary range represents the minimum and maximum salaries for this position and is based on Johns Hopkins University's good faith belief at the time of posting. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. The actual compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary and will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, internal equity, market conditions, education/training and other factors, as reasonably determined by the University.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
