Editor, Economics & Equityu00A0 WNYC and Gothamist newsroom The WNYC and Gothamist newsroom is seeking an ambitious, diligent and enterprising editor to lead our Economics & Equity team. This editor will oversee multiplatform journalists who cover issues directly related to affordability and quality of life in our area.u00A0 A strong editor candidate will have experience managing beat reporting in a daily newsroom and have the ability to translate complex topics into audience-first, accessible news and features for our digital, broadcast and podcast platforms. A proven track record of leadership, problem solving and collaboration is required.u00A0 This editor should be comfortable using data to find and shape stories that are informative and engaging in text and audio formats. Experience editing and managing both daily journalism and long-term enterprise reporting is a plus. The Economic & Equity Editor is responsible for upholding the highest standards of journalistic quality and integrity, ensuring that WNYCu2019s journalism is engaging, timely, accurate, clear, thorough, fair and impactful. This role reports to the Equity & Justice Senior Editor. Responsibilities:
- Operationalize an editorial vision for the Economic & Equity teamu2019s journalism that attracts loyal and diverse audiences in digital, on-air, on-demand audio and social
- Work with beat reporters coach and develop distinct coverage within the Economic & Equity beats
- Hold all content to the highest journalistic standards u2013 from breaking news to longform features
- Create and execute team goals while mentoring, developing and coaching direct reports
- Organize daily and long-term coverage planning that is communicated clearly and with intention
- Collaborate with peers and partners across the organization, bringing visibility to daily coverage and contributing to major projects
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, creativity and innovation in storytelling
- Minimum of 5 years professional journalism experience with experience on a beat or desk that covers issues related to the economy or affordabilityu00A0
- Strong text and digital editing skills with additional editing experience in audio preferred.u00A0
- Proven ability to lead, inspire, manage and deliver feedback to a team of reporters
- People management experienceu00A0
- Proven ability to conceive and execute innovative approaches to storytelling with a demonstrated ability to see the story thatu2019s going to engage readers and to anticipate reader interests
- Demonstrated ability to hear constructive feedback and incorporate the feedback into the worku00A0u00A0
- Deft writing and editing skills, including the ability to sharpen or rewrite copy with grammatical and style precision under deadline
- Sophisticated communication skills, including oral, written, and public speaking
- Deep commitment to accurate, ethical journalism; and impeccable journalistic integrity and judgment
- Demonstrated knowledge of complex social and cultural issues
- Self-starter with proven ability to meet deadlines and pay close attention to detail and fact-checkingu00A0
