Overview
Astoria, Warrenton, Seaside, Cannon Beach and nearby inland towns overflow with stories. You'll be on the frontline of news about the compelling people who live where the Columbia River crashes into the North Pacific Ocean. The Astorian is intensely dedicated to living up to this place with a legendary history and an extraordinary future.
You'll manage a full-time staff of five news people, plus additional talented part-timers and freelancers. You'll report to a regional editor with decades of local knowledge and connections throughout the region, who will help guide content decisions and staffing. It will be you who the news team interacts with on a daily basis to produce three print editions, our website and social media.
Tourism and retirement living are vital aspects of our economy and lifestyle. We create the weekly Coast Weekend supplement and annual Our Coast magazine, which you'll help oversee.
Be ready to pursue subjects yourself. This is a fantastic job for someone who, for example, is excited about ocean science or the impacts of federal policies on local people. Tell us why you're an ideal person for this rare opportunity to wake up every day in one of the nation's genuinely spectacular natural settings.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
Candidates should have an education in journalism or a related field, plus demonstrated news leadership experience. When applying, upload your resume, cover letter and 3-5 clips or PDFs of publications/websites where you played a significant role.
