**Interior Senior Book Designer**
to design and layout fiction and nonfiction books in the adult division. This person will be involved in, on average, 25-35 projects each year, with a focus onfour-andtwo-color designs.**An ideal candidate:**+ Is an Adobe InDesign expert and book design enthusiast+ Is a talented designer with experience designing trade interiors, and interiors for nonfiction 4-and 2-color projects. Willassistwith and create cover designs on certain projects.+ A sharp eye and excellent execution skills in typography,colorand layout+ Is able towork at all levels, from inputting corrections to building well-structured InDesign files for their own originaldesigns+ Understands how their composition workimpactsdownstream processes, includingebookproduction and future print editions+ Will work collaboratively with Design Director and Editorial to ensure the interior and cover complement each other.+ Will work collaboratively with Production Editorial to ensure the manuscript and InDesign document are coded complementarily and coding best practices are applied rigorously from manuscript to finished InDesign files+ Understands book production and printing standards+ Will work with outside freelancers to oversee their work. May occasionallyassistthe design director in overseeing photo shoots.+ Will review and mark up color proofs with instructions for Prepress**Requirements: **+ 3+ years of layout experience in Adobe InDesign; expert in InDesign+ 2 years or more of experience designing original book interiors and covers+ Solid understanding of book composition standards+ Ability to read and implement proofreader’s marks+ Experience manipulating illustrations and photos in Photoshop+ Experience creating and manipulating vector art in Illustrator+ Experience with color proof markup**Work Modality: ** Per our department’s work model, hybrid and fully remote are both acceptable.Simon & Schuster US is an equal opportunity employer (EOE) including disability/vet.
