Job Title: Communication Specialist – Community Outreach
Location: MetroPlan Orlando, Downtown Orlando, FL (Hybrid-Office/Field)

Overview:
MetroPlan Orlando, the metropolitan planning organization for Orange, Osceola, and Seminole Counties, is seeking an experienced Communication Specialist to support the development and implementation of our comprehensive community outreach and public information program. This role focuses on engaging diverse audiences in the transportation planning process and coordinating with regional partners.
This full-time position reports to the Public Information Manager and offers a hybrid-office work environment, with some in-field activities around the region.
Essential Functions:
- Event Coordination: Lead the planning and execution of in-person, hybrid, and virtual events to ensure robust public participation in the transportation planning process.
- Communication Leadership: Serve as the communication lead for assigned tasks and projects, collaborating with the transportation planning department.
- Outreach Development: Create a system to highlight events and projects from MetroPlan Orlando's local government, board members, and state partners.
- Youth Engagement: Develop and execute outreach programs to engage students and young adults in the transportation planning process.
- Survey and Feedback: Lead efforts to execute surveys and gather feedback on transportation issues.
- Community Representation: Represent MetroPlan Orlando at relevant meetings and community functions, including occasional evenings and weekends.
- Presentations: Provide presentations to community groups, as needed.
- Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in public relations, marketing, journalism, or related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years in communications, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Skills:
- Exceptional creativity and strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to create engaging outreach materials in various formats.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, social media, online meeting platforms (e.g., Zoom), website systems (e.g., WordPress), and email marketing platforms (e.g., Constant Contact).
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, video editing software, and social media management tools like Sprout Social.
- Experience working with the public, advisory committees, and elected officials.
- Ability to develop projects from concept to completion.
- Strong event coordination, community relations, and public relations skills.
- Ability to convey complex information in an easy-to-understand manner.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred but not required.
