Join the Newsmax Team as Director of Engineering! At Newsmax, we’re looking for an experienced and motivated Director of Engineering to lead and elevate our broadcast engineering operations. Core Duties and Responsibilities: As the Director of Engineering , you will oversee and execute key projects that ensure the flawless operation of our broadcast systems. Your leadership will be instrumental in maintaining the quality of our broadcasts and enhancing our technical infrastructure. Lead and manage broadcast engineering projects for our Florida facility, with potential support for projects in our New York and Washington, DC facilities. Plan, coordinate, and execute software updates and regular maintenance on broadcast equipment to ensure everything runs smoothly. Serve as the main liaison between the Florida facility and the VP of Broadcast Engineering, acting as a proxy when necessary. Drive the design, testing, and integration of new equipment to ensure we remain at the forefront of broadcasting technology. Establish and maintain policies, ensuring all documentation is accurate and up-to-date. Collaborate with Operations and Production to assess improvements and manage new projects to enhance the quality of our broadcasts. Recommend and implement new policies and procedures related to broadcast engineering for continuous improvement. Lead technical staff by enforcing standard operating procedures and optimizing resources for cost-effective solutions. Coordinate with Networking and IT departments on service requests and technical issues. Oversee HVAC, power systems, and overall facility health, addressing critical issues and coordinating corrective actions with vendors. Work closely with the Operations Manager to create an effective engineering schedule and ensure proper coverage at all times. Develop and maintain policies for trouble reporting and documentation to enhance operational efficiency. Ensure compliance with broadcast industry standards and best practices across all technical aspects. Position Requirements: ~ A Bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required—we value hands-on experience and expertise. ~8+ years of experience in broadcasting, ideally in a live news or event-driven environment. ~ Proven leadership skills, with the ability to manage teams, projects, and cross-functional coordination. ~ Strong organizational skills and a keen attention to detail. ~ Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and drive results with minimal supervision. ~ Expertise in Broadcast Audio and Video standards, ensuring top-tier broadcast quality. ~ In-depth knowledge of A/V and networking signal flow, crucial for seamless operations. ~ Solid understanding of Networking and IT as it relates to broadcasting systems. ~ Experience with streaming content and protocols/formats such as TCP, UDP, MPEG-TS, SRT, Zixi, IGMP/PIM, Layer 2/3, Subnetting, VLANs, OTT, and cloud-based Master Control. ~ Familiarity with tools like Dante, SDI, NDI, ENPS, OnCue Prompters, and NAS/SAN architecture. ~ Bonus: Experience with Digital Intercom systems like RTS/Clearcom. ~ Familiarity with multimedia file formats and codecs. ~ Ability to remain calm under pressure, especially during live broadcasts and high-stress situations.
