Social Media and Communications Coordinator
ABOUT THIS POSITION
Summary: The Social Media and Communications Coordinator executes content creation, scheduling and engagement across CMU's social media platforms, ensuring alignment with the university's brand and messaging. This role creates original content for diverse audiences on platforms like Meta, TikTok, LinkedIn, X, YouTube and Snapchat.
Reporting to the Director of Public Relations, this role supports the storytelling of the university and internal and external communications, develops creative content with a consistent voice, and collaborates with campus communicators to integrate media across multiple platforms. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a strong grasp of social media strategy, audience engagement and digital trends, thriving in a fast-paced environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Social Media
•Support the day-to-day operations of the university's social media platforms, deploying content to engage diverse target audiences (prospective students, current students, alumni, parents, faculty, staff, legislators and the broader community).
•Monitor and respond to comments and messages across all social media platforms in a timely manner.
•Guide professional staff across campus on aligning brand voice on different department channels.
•Oversee a team of student social media representatives responsible for creating creative content.
•Identify, propose and implement new social media opportunities, including influencer marketing strategy, staying current with the latest industry trends, identifying and applying new media technology and best practices.
•Develop clearly defined pillars and a content calendar using social media management software to ensure thoughtful and comprehensive coverage of university events and initiatives.
•Understand data metrics and analytics to measure and optimize content performance.
•Collaborate with advertising agency and marketing director to develop cohesion between organic and paid marketing.
Creative Content
•Work closely with marketing and communication staff to implement strategic integrated marketing communication plans that increase the university's brand awareness and affinity.
•Ability to create fun, trendy content while maintaining professionalism.
•Utilize content creation platforms like Canva, CapCut, Adobe Suite, etc.
•Ability to develop long-form, long-term storytelling strategies on YouTube.
•Adhere to journalistic standards for fact-finding, research, verification and style.
•Interview faculty, staff, alumni, donors, students to tell stories that exemplify CMU's brand trajectory and strategic direction.
Minimum Qualifications:
•Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in communications, marketing, journalism, communications or a related field.
•Ability to write, edit and proof with attention to audience, tone and nuance.
•Work and/or college experience in creating content (videos, photos, feature stories) for use on social media, the website or advertising.
•Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office.
•Demonstrated experience with current and developing social media channels and social media management software.
•Desire and willingness to work collaboratively with all departments within a large, complex organization.
•Self-motivated and flexible, with the ability to self-manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
•Ability to listen, synthesize information and write clearly and concisely.
•Strong time management, organization and start-to-finish project management skills.
•An ability to work on projects, take initiative and confidently advocate for a strategic vision.
•Strong interpersonal communication and customer service skills.
•A valid driver's license is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
•Experience working in higher education or another large, complex organization.
•Demonstrated experience with Adobe Creative Cloud software.
•Bi-lingual (English/Spanish).
Salary:
