detail( Library Employees Only ) Chief, Collections Management Division (Detail/Temporary Promotion) Opening Date : April 21, 2025 Closing Date : May 2, 2025 LC Organization Unit : Library Collections and Services Group LC Organization Unit - Specific Office : Collections Management Division Series : 1410 Availability : Library Employees Only Duration : Up to 120 days The Collections Management Division (CMD) in the Preservation Directorate (PRES) is offering an opportunity for a qualified individual at the GS-15 level to serve on a full-time, 120-day temporary promotion to the SL position, OR a qualified individual at the SL (no promotion) to serve on a detail as the Chief, Collections Management Division. The applicant must have one year time-in-grade at the GS-15 level to be eligible for the temporary promotion at the SL level. The Chief of CMD is the Library's officer for the planning, development and implementation of a program that ensures collections are securely and safely available from the time they enter the National collection and throughout their lifecycle. This includes maintenance of chain-of-custody throughout circulation and problem resolution actions, inside the Library’s premises and externally; safe and secure transportation of materials; and the development and oversight of storage facilities that meet appropriate security and preservation requirements. Responsibilities: Collaborating with various stakeholders on space planning for collections Library-wide, both on Capitol Hill and other sites, and has delegated custodial responsibility for the general book collections, considered internationally significant in their research value, scope and importance. Advising senior staff and officials at multiple levels of the service unit and agency on matters related to the management of the collections including issues of access, security, inventory control, space, retrieval and organization. Supervising managers and staff at the GS-15 and below levels. Ensuring the formulation and administration of policies affecting the mission of the CMD and LCSG in the areas of inventory management, logistics, and collections storage. Serving as a member of the Preservation Directorate management team, working closely with subject matter expert staff throughout the Library’s custodial divisions to meet the Library’s user services goals.
