The University places special emphasis on preparing students for excellence in professional life, civic engagement, and instilling an understanding that learning is an exciting lifelong journey.Purpose of RoleThe Director of Institutional Communication is responsible for managing the University's strategic communication and public relations efforts using all available media and platforms. The Director reports directly to the Vice President for Enrollment Management and works closely with their cabinet. The Director is also a part of the University's Emergency Response Team (ERT) and serves as the Public Information Officer (PIO) for all crises.About This OpportunityJoining our Marketing and Communication team, the Director of Institutional Communication will be responsible for the following:Develop and implement a strategic media plan for the University.Serve as Editor-in-Chief of the University's magazine, Daemen Today.Serve as Editor-in-Chief of the University's weekly electronic newsletter, the Daemen Voice.Coordinate crisis communications to internal, external, and media outlets per the Emergency Response Plan.Collaborate with various departments to systematize media efforts for the University.Compose and edit news and feature articles, press releases, media pitches, and other communication types.Attend institutional events and key meetings to ensure strong presence and visibility.Create and cultivate relationships with journalists and media personnel.Develop and maintain a database of media contacts.Pitch and place stories with media outlets, focusing on statewide and national media.Respond promptly to media requests for information.Utilize mixed media to promote the University.Solicit material for news and feature stories that promote the University's academic excellence.Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in journalism, communication, public relations, English, or related field.Minimum of five (5) years' experience in journalism, public relations, or a related field.Superior writing, proofreading, public speaking, and verbal communication skills.Proven ability to manage multiple projects and strict deadlines.Strong outward-facing representative of Daemen University.Experience in writing for diverse formats and audiences.Proven success in placing stories in national media.Familiarity with digital media formats and their influence on public relations.For consideration, please complete the application and submit a letter of interest, resume, and references.
