Extrusion Manager Job Description:

The Extrusion Manager manages/directs the extrusion team and their daily activities to ensure the extrusion process/team meets the defined safety, quality, and productivity targets. The Extrusion Manager is responsible for the analysis of the extrusion results to optimize the process through the creation of metrics, specifications, operating conditions, standard work and training of his/her team to ensure a consistent manufacturing method and approach to the team’s daily activities.

The Extrusion Manager is responsible for clearly communicating the needs of extrusion to internal customers/suppliers to ensure operating expectations are aligned across the operations team. For example, communicating to the plant manager; team leaders; maintenance; logistics, bagging station team; supervisors, quality and technical teams.

Extrusion Manager’s Job Functions:

1. Provide technical support and guidance, ensuring process maximization.
2. Reduce process variation.
3. Provide input and assistance for tooling enhancements and equipment upgrades.
4. Develop run rules (Standard Work and specification sheets) for operators to manage the process based on equipment and quality feedback.
5. Lead and manage applicable projects.
6. Supervise, mentor and train extrusion employees.
7. Coordinate activities between extrusion and other teams.
8. Coordinate and perform daily inspections of major operating equipment and work areas. Correct any problems.
9. Maximize plant productivity and quality. Minimize plant downtime.
10. Develop / establish KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators).
11. Participate and lead 5Y and problem-solving events.
12. Establish and implement set up sheets / training for all extrusion equipment.
13. Document extrusion results including downtime, input pounds, output pounds, waste, etc.
14. Develop and implement ways to improve safety, increase productivity, improve product quality, reduce operating costs, and minimize waste.
15. Lead crisis process / breakdown resolution activities.
16. Interact closely with operation, engineering, and maintenance personnel to identify issues and implement appropriate solutions.
17. Perform employee evaluations and recommend disciplinary actions to Human Resources and Site Manager.
18. Responsible for reporting / documenting the necessary extrusion results or needs like: Maintenance Repair Items; PM’s; Required Process Improvements; Projects; Quality Concerns; Production Requirements; keeping Operations Manager and Site Manager in the loop.
19. Guiding the efforts of the extrusion team to ensure we protect our employees and ensure our facilities are safe, clean and secure.
20. Ability to complete an assigned task in a safe manner and must understand and follow all safety and quality rules and procedures.
21. Must be able to work in a cooperative manner with craft workers, laborers, subcontractors, co-workers, supervisors, and others on the jobsite and in the office.

Extrusion Manager’s Education/Training/Experience

1. Possess a Bachelors Degree
2. Experience in Blown Film Extrusion
3. Proven Troubleshooting Skills
4. Must be experienced in safety procedures, quality procedures, good manufacturing procedures, production procedures and good maintenance procedures.
5. 5+ years of direct supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment
6. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
7. Some mechanical and electrical background a plus
8. Understanding basic characteristics of different types of plastics
9. Should have some basic knowledge and concepts of the PLC.
10. Should have some basic knowledge of material handling processes.
11. Must have effective written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish.
12. Be a good problem-solver, a good listener, analytical and hands on.
13. Must understand specific OSHA and EPA standards as they relate to plant environment.
14. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
