Geographic Information System Specialist

Overview: Optomi, in partnership with a large accounting firm, is looking for a GIS Specialist to join their growing team. The GIS Specialist will support back-office activities related to lease administration and regulatory compliance within the upstream oil and gas sector. This role involves data management, polygon generation, analysis, GIS application administration, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

Responsibilities:

• Lease Administration: Polygon generation associated with legal descriptions of Land Agreements.
• Cartography: Create custom paper and web maps based on spatial analysis of several datasets.
• Data Analysis: Quality control over enterprise-wide GIS system health.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with governmental regulations, including reporting and documentation.
• Coordination: Collaborate with front and mid-office teams to ensure alignment on strategies and projects.
• Reporting: Prepare custom reports on a wide array of functional needs.
• Record Keeping: Maintain organized and up-to-date databases and layers.

Must-Haves:

• Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Business, Geography, or related experience.
• Proficiency in land management software GIS systems.
• Python and FME experience a plus.
• Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
